Iam intending to buy an iPad 2018 128 gb for college?? However Iam really worried that it won't be enough.. If an estimated used storage in a year is shown in the inserted picture.

.. Do you think 128 gb will be enough for 6 years .. Mostly Iam gonna use to take notes in notability (beware that I would like to save all my lectures for future use, not deleting them), PowerPoint and e-books ...

Are you intending to use this as your primary device? (basically, do you intend to replace a laptop with the ipad) If you use this in combination with a laptop (or at least have one) you should be more than fine. Text documents take up a very small amount of storage. Worst case, you can offload older lectures / files to your laptop or to a cloud sharing service.

I don't think ipads are able to replace the full functionality of a laptop just yet, but they're pretty damn close.

No, even with always-on, high-speed internet access, that's pretty small.
Any video imaging or other such large files you'd rather not have to wait for take up a ton of space.

(I'm assuming your iPad will be your only device, I'm switching from a MBP and Mac Mini to a Mac Mini and an iPad and then just the iPad. I have the 256, latest model that's not a pro.)

Yeah it should be enough. I overestimated the amount of space I was gonna need and bought a 256gb device, I use an IPP as a primary device for work (lots of document editing, note taking and I have to take tons of pictures) and I'm nowhere near 20 gb of used space, I've put like 10gb of music, a few games and apps and I'm currently at 32gb of used space.

The cherry on top is that I purchased the basic icloud tier of 50gb a month so basically I paid a lot for space I'm probably never gonna use. The same thing happened to me with my iphone, I bought a 128gb and now realize that a 64gb should have been enough.

Need to figure out just how you plan to use this.
My daughter is training to be a veterinarian. A tablet didn't din't work and she has since migrated to a hybrid laptop (512gb) and still uses cloud and a stick.
She does use her iPad for some reading / study material and video. The iPad she found would not work as her primary device.

I suspect a med curriculum would require even more.

It will be a lifetime of notes to fill up 128GB, assuming you are not interspersing your notes with an inordinate amount of high pixel photos or high definition video files. A low res image or two or an audio file every now and then will also take a long time before filling up 128GB - most likely your hardware would have ended its useful lifespan before you fill her up.

University professor here. 128 GB on an iPad is MORE than enough for notes, lectures, books, etc. And if you ever need more space, offload to iCloud, DropBox or Box. Don't know about your school but at mine, an unlimited proprietary Box account is free.

It depends on what you are using it for, notes and some pictures yes. However especially if it is your main device I would question how likely it is that it will still be able to run current software 6 years from now. I don’t think any iPads have kept support for more than 5 years.

I am completing my doctorate and have used my MacBook Air (128gb) in conjunction with Noteability since 2014. I cannot imagine having done it any other way. 128gb was fine but I saved all of my work to OneDrive. Most, if not all, schools provide Office and 1TB of storage on OneDrive. I’m a bit paranoid so I back up all my work on Dropbox as well. I’m starting my second next month and will do it the same way with the same gear.. good luck.

I don't think you will be using the same iPad for 6 years. Buy what you think will be enough for the next few, as others have noted more and more storage is moving to the clouds.

I swap out my iPad every other year, and I picked up a low profile 128gb USB drive that stays in. Between that and cloud storage you’ll be ok

Pediatrician here. Since I know what you'll be going through, 128gb is more than enough space. some ebooks take about 50mb of space or so, and most things you'll be using have an app anyways that at most will take up 1gb(and not like you'll have 100 of those apps anyways, more like 2-3). I wish they made the 2018 iPad in a 64gb model, thats the sweet spot.

Good luck! Getting into med school is harder than finishing it so strong work. Pediatrics is the best :)

I have the 12.9” iPad Pro, I use the cloud for all my documents (not iCloud) and 64GB has worked for me. 256 and 512GB version are overkill unless the OP does not have high speed wifi service. An Apple Pencil is a cherry on the top and the Smark Keyboard is a joy to type on, I cannot stand the plastic keys and even the loud sound it makes on any Apple laptop now (pre butterfly and butterfly), my fingers are living a typist dream. When your fingers get accustomed to the fabric texture and the low profile and your ears get used to the near silent typing, all other experience's feel inferior.

Even with all my multi-GB games and apps installed, I'm only using 35.2GB out of my 256GB on my 12.9". Apple does a good job on the up-sell game. Having 64GB, 256, and 512 tiers makes the 64GB seem small, but for iOS we're talking about megaton of space. I could load up my entire music collection and not even hit half way.

64GB has been the sweet spot for me, may it be phone or tablet. 128GB is what I purchased when 32GB was at the entry level. I wonder what Apple will do for its upcoming device storage options, make 64GB the entry level or bump it up to 128GB and 512GB (previous 64GB and 256GB).

I have a 256GB iPad that I bought because the guy gave it to me for half price. I have a lot of stuff on it including a great anatomy app called Atlas. Even with all that I have only used 20GB. Unless you are going to put a lot of movies on your iPad, from my experience, the 128 will be enough.
