i only had catalina running for 2 days (some crazy issues), and will return (i'm crazy too). but 1password6 worked here, with the important note that the safari plugin does NOT work. i don't need that, so i can use the app. your mileage may vary....

my One Password revision 6 license is relatively new and want to get some millage before doing the expensive $60.00 up grade to rev7.

I started using the Brave internet browser & OnyX
-Brave dosnt pull up in "New Private Window" more so you have to remember to switch
-Brave dosnt have a lot of added feature support so have to copy past from One Password
-OnyX clears some of the DNS information
-0nyX will automatic close your browser so I run it to close my internet secession

not sure what you're getting at; anyway, the 1password version we both use (version 6) works in catalina, but the safari plugin does not work.

He is using a third party browser, that isn't a "standard" browser, and probably isn't exactly support by 1Password, and probably won't be. It is based off of Chrome browser, but has privacy modifications.

Not if it doesn't work with Catalina. :)

Seriously, few vendors are going to support old software on a new OS. If we want to keep macOS up to date (and we should) then we also need to keep apps up to date.

1password6 isn't that old, and it does work in catalina; the browser extension doesn't work (and i don't need it). am a big believer in moving forward... but it's also ok to keep an app that does, in fact, work.

I think that with Brave - the better solution, even with 1Password 6, is to use the extension called 1Password X.

No comment on the 1Password 6 macOS Catalina compatibility as I do not know... just throwing out a situation I was in recently with Brave and 1Password 7 on Mojave. I chose the 1Password X extension and my issue with the regular 1Password extension went away.

I am pretty sure 1Password X requires subscription.

As for OP's answer, if Agilebits is still offering $49.99 promo pricing for 1Password 7, I would bite the bullet and upgrade. In all likelihood, it will be the last version to be offered as non-subscription. And while 7 isn't a groundbreaking upgrade, I think it has enough new features, look nicer, and has more secure engine to warrant $49.99 (at $64.99 full price, I would think twice though).

If you aren't willing to pay, I would look into switching to alternative solution. You are probably going to have a tough time finding one that isn't offered as subscription, however.

Hi folks. Ben from 1Password here. A few comments:

  1. 1Password 6 for Mac is retired and has not been updated or sold in over a year. We can't recommend using an older version. That is, of course, your prerogative (licenses never expire) but it isn't something we can recommend.
  2. It is possible to purchase a license for 1Password 7 for Mac. The sale is still on, as of writing, so it is available for $50 USD + tax. Regular price as was mentioned above once the sale ends will be $65 USD + tax. That said, membership is the way forward. Membership gets you access to the latest versions of 1Password for all of your compatible devices as well as a whole host of other features starting at $3/mo, which may work out to be less expensive than the cost of a license. You can also occasionally catch a promo for an extended trial, even further reducing your cost for the first year.
  3. While we aren't officially testing 1Password 6 against Catalina early reports from customers on the Catalina beta have been mostly positive (excepting Safari as noted above).
  4. For Safari 13 Apple is going Safari App Extension only, which means the older style Safari extension that 1Password 6 uses won't work. This will affect everyone who upgrades to Safari 13, regardless of OS level. Of course we would recommend running the latest versions of macOS, your browsers, and 1Password, regardless. It just makes good security sense to keep up to date.
  5. 1Password X is awesome, but it does indeed require a membership.

I hope that helps. :)

Ben

I was one of those not willing to spend $49.99 for the 1Password 7 upgrade. Just a month or so ago I finally purchased the upgrade due to a few glitches/lags 1Password 6 was having on 10.4.

I did, however, test Enpass before my 1Password 7 purchase. Enpass is excellent and I wish I stayed with it. The only reason I did not was due to the import issue and not quite as polished as 1Password. In regards to the import issue, I'd recommend deleting trash and all your generated passwords in 1Password (or convert them to logins). 1Password keeps these items organized but once you import to Enpass it makes a mess. When you thought you had 1 login for something you now have the 10+ password changes that were sitting in your Trash or Passwords you have to filter through to find the right login.

I resolved the import issue before purchasing 1Password 7 upgrade. What sold me was Security. I found an article stating that Apple was using 1Password for its employees. If any security issues arise, they will be addressed quickly. With Enpass, I'm not so sure. Wish the existing customer upgrade was around $29/39. $49+ is too high for what it is.

With all that being said. I do not and will not trust a cloud platform for my passwords. If 1Password discontinues its self hosted/download version I will go elsewhere.

Ben, while I totally understand and support 1Password going subscription-based model from sustainability point of view, I hope 1Password and 1Password X will expand support for multiple vaults to alternate storage options.

As truz points out, many of us simply prefer to store all of our data to storage platform of our choice, whether it be local, iCloud, Dropbox, Google Cloud, etc. Currently, 1Password limits multiple vaults storage to either 1Password.com server or Dropbox.

With iOS 13 and macOS Catalina adding shared folder support for iCloud, I am ready to bail on Dropbox (bloated mess IMO). 1Password is the only thing holding me back. I have tried 1Password.com (family subscription is included with my $100/year Eero Plus membership) and while I appreciate its simplicity, I just rather store all my super sensitive data on iCloud.

I would even pay subscription for the privilege of using alternate cloud storage (assuming I wasn't subscribing to Eero Plus, which again includes 1Password.com family subscription), as I appreciate watchtower and other on-going improvements.

This may be a conversation we should continue through one of the 1Password support channels? I don't want to derail the OP's thread here... But I'll answer briefly, with the understanding that we'd be happy to discuss further through email: `support@1password.com`

We don't currently have plans to expand support for 3rd party sync services. In addition to supporting syncing multiple vaults via Dropbox it is also possible to do so through the WLAN Server, and of course 1Password.com. I don't foresee us dedicating the (limited) resources to adding that capability for iCloud. Demand has been very low, especially considering the amount of work that would be required. Shared folder support also isn't coming. We use CloudKit, rather than iCloud Drive, which is Apple's solution for syncing databases with iCloud. My understanding is shared folders will apply to iCloud Drive, not CloudKit. Would be interested in hearing more about your reluctance to use 1Password.com, especially with it being included in your Eero Plus membership, but again that is probably conversation for a different venue.

you can get a license for 1password7 (i just did, upgrading from 6, so i can use the safari extension in catalina, after all..)

But in an earlier thread bwoodruff commented: "That said, membership is the way forward." I asked for clarification, but never saw any. (If 1Password 7 is the last time it'll be available as a one-time license, then it may be best to try to find an alternative now.)

sure. but 1password6 still works (on catalina, sans the web plugin). so, 7 should work for some time to come. otherwise, like ALL software, it's a crapshoot how long an app will last (and if it will get updated). for example, i moved to dreamweaver CC because i had to (not because i am ok with the subscription model)...

huh, the web plugin works for me (at least in Chrome). Are you speaking to Safari?
