iCloud Is 5gb free storage on iCloud fair?

I know paying to get 50gb is not very expensive.

But I wish Apple rewarded customers based on how many devices they have in the Apple ecosystem.

So someone with an iPhone, iPad and Mac might be given 15gb of free storage.
5 gb seems fair if you have only one product.

It's all about making as much money as possible. $0.99/month X 400 million users is a lot of $$$

Why are you entitled to other people's stuff? If you want iCloud then step up and PAY FOR IT.

I agree that 5 "free" GB for iCloud storage is ridiculous, especially in 2021. I think that the sweet spot would be around 15-25 GB, but I don’t think that Apple will upgrade the cloud storage options anytime soon. The idea of giving storage regarding the number of devices you own is interesting, but I doubt Apple would ever do it, they like the one size fits all solutions.

iCloud is available for a 5gb free even if you don't have an Apple device.
Suggesting more storage based on additional hardware purchase is hardly entitled.

No, I doubt it either.
Considering many can and do use other cloud services out there, I thought Apple could offer greater rewards.
Giving an extra 5gb for each device would be nothing to Apple, especially if someone just forked out $3K on a laptop.
It would also keep users from leaving the ecosystem and see how others like Google for instance, provides 15gb free.

I kind of agree with you. Even Google gives you 15 GB. But, I bit the bullet and pay Apple 99 cents every month for 50 GB. There is no way I could backup my iPhones and iPad with only 5 GB.

I don’t know why there is always such a big noise about the free allowance.

Whether it’s 5GB or 10GB it’s pretty minimal and you soon need more.

Once you’re paying for storage then prices all seem pretty reasonable and similar to other providers.

As far as cloud-based services go, iCloud is pretty cheap as far as I can tell. And the integration between devices is seamless.
The mistake people make is comparing to google drive… with google, your information is your payment. Apple is not collecting data like google is.

The free tier is only 5GB because they don't want people who are not actively using the service to utilize more than 5GB of space.

Think about it; someone tries out iCloud, uploads the entire photo library which is 30GB, then decides Apple is not for them and switches to Android. If the free tier were 30GB, the data would eternally sit there wasting space. By having a 5GB tier and making people pay a buck a month for a reasonable amount, Apple ensures it's actively being used. When someone ends their subscription, Apple can eventually purge the data.
