So I have the 2015 12.9 iPad Pro 128GB. It has 94GB remaining. Looks like 64GB may be enough?

Or are there software intensive apps on the way?

I used to have a 128GB iPad Air, used it for a bit and never filled it up. I was confident that 64GB is sufficient, downgraded 64GB iPad Air 2, ended up having to offload some games and movies once in a while especially when I needed to load movies for any long trip.

Moved on to a 256GB recently and feel much better now as I can load whatever I want including a few seasons of shows on Netflix etc..

I don’t take photos with ipads but i do take tons of screenshots after making the assistive touch button screenshot button, it’s a faster alternative to saving/downloading images. I guess each screenshot can go around 5 mb since ipad’s resolution is huge. I have turned on ‘optimize photos’ so i guess 23 gigs of photos in icloud are my screenshots... if you don’t take many screenshots, it should be fine.

Ios 13 will come with external drive support so backing up files will be super easy (though i have a doubt with how well it works but let’s see) so yeah i think 64 gb is fine.

About incoming apps, There is adobe photoshop. But you should be able to figure out what you wanna do with the ipad. If you are regularly deleting and backing up files, 64 gig will last.... if you are a regular ipad use who browse, watch videos, and edit basic documents. 64 gig is enough...

Thanks for that input. I like the idea of maybe making some promo videos on Lumafusion. Also considering some synthesisers/audio etc. I read somewhere about recommending 1TB for that but it's almost the price of a 2nd iPad!

My original iPad Pro from 2015 still works great but my that new version is so tempting!

Really hard for anyone to predict anyone else’s future storage needs. For me, 64 isn’t enough. I do use iCloud but I buy larger hard drives than I need. That way I’ve never had to wonder. I’ve never had to even check and see how much I’m using.

However, with external HD coming with iOS 13, smaller HD’s could be ok if you don’t mind carrying around a separate HD. I can’t personally see me wanting to carry around something else. Others may not have any issue with it.

I’ll probably go 256. I wouldn’t like to have to carry separate HD around with.

I just bought an iPad Pro 11 and went with 64. I looked at my iPad Pro 9.7 with 128GB and it said I was using 29GB, so a lot of wasted space. And as others have mentioned, the ability to move data back and forth from an iPad to storage gets much better with iPadOS.

I use iCloud for most of my storage therefore the lowest storage works for me
Same. I used to buy higher storage tier iPads and iPhones, but found that I was only ever using 30-50 GB of it on average. I went with the 64 GB 11" iPad Pro, and even with my Affinity Photo projects, Procreate projects, games, photos, etc, I'm still only at about 42 GB used.

I recently bought a 64GB iPad Pro having sold my 256GB one a year earlier. The smaller size really made me think about what apps I needed when I was setting up the new one. I was surprised at how many apps I rarely if ever used. In some ways, having less space made me more organised.

Ultimately, the smaller size is fine for my usage, but it really depends on how and what you use your iPad for.

If anything, the changes in iOS 13/iPadOS should lead to some apps being smaller.

Was the one you sold the 2015 or 2017 version?
The one I sold was a 2017 10.5 Pro. I wasn't using it enough to justify the price so I went without for just over a year. I ended up buying an 11 Pro as I managed to get a great deal on one.

I agree with you, 128GB would be the sweet spot for me, but it's only available on the 6th gen iPad. The extra £150 to upgrade from 64GB to 256GB seems too high to me.

How do you like the new version compared to the older?
I like the bigger screen size. I noticed a benefit going from 9.7” to 10.5” and a similar one going up to 11”. A 12.9” screen is just too big for me to hold for long periods of time.

Face ID isn’t as reliable for me as Touch ID was and I’ve tried resetting it several times. It just seems to have a bit of a problem when the light isn't great, although it works better when it’s fully dark.

In terms of performance, I can’t say I notice a difference as both are seriously overpowered and I use mine for content consumption rather than productivity.

Beyond that, there’s little to separate them in normal use. It looks better and is a bit thinner, but that doesn’t make a big difference when it’s in a case.

I always liked using a Smart Cover and a back case with my previous iPads, but unfortunately, they’re not available for the new Pros. The Smart Folio doesn’t offer the level of protection I want.

I did consider buying another 10.5 Pro now that they’re being discounted, but the potential bright spot issue put me off. I sold my original one before I was even aware of it and didn’t want to tempt fate with another one. In fact, I was going to opt for the 3rd generation Air instead because of the issue.

The Pro 11 is the best iPad I've owned and I've owned an iPad 2, 3, 4, Air, Air 2, Pro 9.7 and the Pro 10.5, but it is expensive.

128GB is the sweet spot for me, that's what my pros have... The mini did not have 128 and so I chose 64... I think for the mini it's enough, but it will probably mean more storage management. On my pros I sync locally several folders on onedrive, like on desktop and the more space I have the more I tend to sync locally

I went with 256GB. My reason is very simple: I like local storage. The thing is, the Air I bought is Wi-Fi only, so if I’m out and about where there is no Wi-Fi access, should I be completely hosed because I keep vital files in iCloud? I think that’s silly. Plus, occasionally, even my Wi-Fi at home goes out (hate Comcast, brr). Even if you have LTE and no data restriction, sometimes there is no coverage (at least here in Los Angeles). Why on earth would I want to rely exclusively on iCloud for vital stuff? What if there’s an outage of iCloud (happened before!). Plus, with my key files kept locally, I don’t have to download anything, I got it right here.

The new iPadOS coming is going to be even better for me. Because one of the problems with local storage was the poor file system accessibility. Now that they are going to beef up Files, I feel super good about keeping more files locally.

I don’t like the feeling of having to worry about how much room I got on my iPad, or even on iCloud - I have the minimum free iCloud, and I’m not spending a dime on iCloud storage or Google Drive or whatnot, and I also don’t worry about how much room I got on those. I only back up a few vital files in the cloud just for safety and don’t need much space there - I like to keep everything right with me on my iPad I can take anywhere and everywhere, whether a trip or just to a coffee shop and not worry about connectivity or if the Wi-Fi is slow or non-existent. I can work anywhere and everywhere, just as iPad was intended to do, free and independent.

Max local storage for the win! IMHO, YMMV.

I made the other trade-off, LTE instead of 256, as I have a second SIM card. If ipad mini was my only or even main ipad then yes, no doubt I would have taken 256. But my main devices are the pros, both at 128. Ipad mini for me is probably the only device I use as mainly as a "tablet" for browsing, messages etc. and not as a portable laptop. When I upgrade to a new pro in a few years, I'll probably pick 256 or more.
