I want to get a new iPad. I was thinking of geting the air 3. I will mostly use it for gaming , Internet and stuff I won't be saving a lot of pictures or videos on it. Can the iPad Air use micro sd cards?

You'll need an adapter ($30-40?) and you can't use external storage for apps and stuff. If need to store a bunch of big games, probably best to go for 256GB.

If you're just using it for content consumption you're probably fine with 64GB. I had a 12inch iPad Pro from 2017 with 256GB and after using it nearly daily for two years I had only used about 64GB on it. So I know it can be done for sure especially if you aren't using it for anything crazy or trying to replace another device with it.

In my experience, as everyone else above has said, 64GB is more than enough for that. Only reason I went with 256GB, is to keep all my iCloud photos stored locally, as my iPad is my go-to device to edit and show pictures to people.

This is how I answer your question when I ask it to myself... if I wonder if I’ll need the extra storage then I go ahead and buy it. That why I never have to wonder...

You can’t store 64Gb of data on a 64GB iPad. Also if you have it that full I would say upgrade the storage for some headroom. I survive with a 64gb iPhone fine with about 25-30GB free but I use about 85% or more on my 512gb iPad Pro 11 storing movies and such

Don't count on using SD cards for anything other than occasional use. Even with the updates to iPadOS, use of external storage is limited. That's after dealing with the physical inconvenience of needing an adapter, cable, or dongle. Do-able, but not ideal.

As mentioned by others, depends upon the games... those could be quite large (1-2GB)... or they could be small for things like Candy Crush and Toy Blast. Also, if "Internet" includes Facebook, be prepared for the app to gobble up tons of local storage.

On the surface it sounds like 64GB would be adequate, but if you're going to keep it for the long run, then it is probably best to go with 256GB... simply because the longer you keep an iPad the greater the possibility that there will be an update to iPadOS that could benefit from the added storage.

Yeah I have a 64gb iPad Air 3 and I think I'm only using 30gig. Photos are stored locally too and I have 1000 of them,

Depends on usage, but I easily get by on 64GB for both my iPhone and iPad. The only stuff that takes up most of the space on both devices are apps and photos (and even then, I still have plenty of free space available). I utilize iCloud a lot and stream music and TV shows/movies, so I don't need a ton of localized storage.

Yep. Really depends on how big the games are and how many of them will be kept local. There are some games that are like 3-4GB. If one only needs maybe a couple big games and several small ones, 64GB is fine.

For a purely streaming setup, even 32GB is adequate.

64gb model is more than enough for gaming and surfing. It’s pics and videos that eat up all the space

Not if you care about your music.
My iOS devices are all 256GB because i have my music in uncompressed formats (WAV, AIF, FLAC).

A 5 minute track could be between 50-150MB.

Do you see any mention of music in his post? Your music collection and how you store it also doesn’t fall under “most” users

I can get by fine with 64gb but I always tend to get 128/256gb if I can. With apple devices it’s so true that’s it’s better to have more than you need than not having enough.

Idk but I always feel like space constraints can be somewhat stressful and make me more conscious of media/apps sizes as time goes by whereas something like 256gb & above sorta feels liberating in that I could care less what app or media files I put on there. I think it’s piece of mind having more than I need even if I don’t need it 😉

My use is like yours and I’m totally fine with my 64gb. Just note you might need to limit the number of games in the iPad if they take up too many gigs. But you can delete and download.
