Is a 2.26 mini with a 7200 hdd close to comparable to a 2.53 2008 UMBP in speed?

I realize the L2 cache is half the size and the CPU is a bit slower, but if each machine had 4 gigs of ram, would they be more or less comparable in performance (aside from the GPU)?

Also, how does the Mini fare with Vista in BootCamp / Parallels?

I know it is not specific to your question - but I have a 2.0ghz w/ 4gb of ram and 500gb HD and it has tackled everything I've thrown at it - no problem.

CS3 Creative Suite
Parallels w/ Vista, XP and Windows 7
Dual Monitors
etc.

I also have a MBP as you can see in my signature - I feel like I get the beach ball more on that, than I do my Mini - go figure.

if you swapped that hdd with an ssd it would probably win

No significant difference. MBP has only faster CPU so if you're doing something that needs a lot from CPU, MBP will be faster but not much
