The thing I have noticed with Mac Pro's is that, for whatever reason, they seem to hold their value. Many of you think, next year they'll drop in price, so far, I've been watching them over the past year, they don't drop much at all. First gen intel Mac Pro 1,1's still command anywhere from $700 to over $1000, they may not get the high end price but thats the range. I upgraded from a Mac Pro 1,1 to a 3,1 with 16GB of RAM and it cost me just under $1000 with trading in my 1,1 which had 9GB of RAM. 2008 models are good machines, 64bit, 8 cores, the only downside is they still use FB DIMMS which are expensive. If you can get a 2009 model for $1500 or less, which I think would be tough, then go for it. If you want to get a 2008 model, then get one with as much RAM as possible so you don't have to buy it afterwards.
