is a jailbroke/unlock iPhone fits my needs?

hi..
im thinking of selling my ipod 16gb touch so i can get a 16gb iphone and unlock it/jailbreak..i just want a iphone so that i can use the camera and use it with my T-moblie and like a ipod touch so when a 3g iphone comes out that will be my main cell phone ..but before i buy it i want to know if it will be right for my needs..

1.can i use it like a ipod touch just rely on wifi so i can take pics email it web maps ect...without use of the carrier sim card..

2.as for t-mobil service will i be able to use maps youtube web mail ect.?

3.if there was a defect i want to return it what sholud i do? i didnt activate it with ATT..do i return it on restore mode and undo the unlocking/jailbroke apps.will they ask for my ATT account?

1. If you Activate/Jailbreak the iPhone and do not Unlock it is basically an iPod Touch.

2. If you have T-Mobile you can then Unlock (in addition to Activate/Jailbreak) and use you voice plan with the iPhone. To get Maps/YouTube/Mail/etc. working you must have a T-Mobile data plan (T-Zones ($5.99) w/Hacks or Total Internet ($19.99) w/o Hacks) or be around WiFi to get these features working.

3. If you do not sign up for AT&T your iPhone is not covered by any warranty. (This is unconfirmed but I have heard it enough times for me to believe it to be true.)

how about if i buy from ATT store will they add a data plan to it? will i be able to get it from ATT store like if i went to apple store..just buy the iphone beacause i heard that ATT will give you data plan..or can i just say its a gift so they wont put data plan..
