Is a Macbook C2D faster than an iMac G5 (isight)???

hi guys, i currently own a 20" iMac G5 (the very last one before the Intel upgrade) and a Black MacBook c2d

the iMac has 1.5 gb ram and the Macbook has 2 gb ram....

so, since the iMac is a PPC and pretty much every application is being developed for Intel even though at the moment they're also developing for PPC too, i believe PPC will become obsolete very fast.

so i've been thinking about selling my iMac and getting an External display and external drive to backup all the info that's in my iMac and just use the macbook.....

i'm a musician and i use the macbook and imac for recording purposes......do you think the Macbook is FASTER than my PPC imac?

a 5400rpm harddrive is a bit slower than a 7200rpm harddrive, so sometimes it can feel slower.

the processor is rockin awesome though.

That's not really a good example since they are Core Duos from more than a year ago against a dual 2GHz G5 not a single G5. He didn't say how fast. But there is no doubt the C2D MacBook is radically faster than your single core G5 iMac.

Right, in the case of music recording, you'll probably be ok, but a 7200RPM drive in a FW enclosure will give you a (perhaps only slight) performance boost while recording.

Well the core 2 duo processor is fgoing to be fasster isn't it, considering its new, and the ppc came out ages ago.

I said those test were for older machines and was working off the principle that if a 2.0GHz Core Duo could beat a dual 2.0GHz G5 comfortably, then a 2.0 or 2.16Ghz C2D would trounce a single G5 (the maximum speed of which could by 2.1GHz) machine - especially as the latter would have less memory.

But if you don't think this gave the OP any useful idea about whether a CD/C2D machine is faster than a PPC one, I'm not going to argue.
