With all the rumours around, I was just wondering how likely a new Mac Mini will be.

If there is one, what spec's do you think it'll have? Do you think the high end one will become the new low end and something will replace the high end one? If so, what sort of pricing would you expect?

I just bought a 13" 2.26GHz Macbook Pro which my girlfriend is now using (she was meant to have the Dell...doh!), but she's happy so I'm happy. Anyway, I'm thinking, if the Mac Mini is updated, I could go for one of those to replace my hackintosh rather than waiting til I can afford another MBP.

Yea, I think so.

My spec guess:

Low-end model

2.26GHz C2D
2GB RAM
250GB HD
G210M
499$

High-end model

2.53GHz C2D
4GB RAM
320GB HD
GT130M
699$

Thanks, I'll look forward to it - you're usually good at spec's :)

cross my fingers...my PC desktop is slowing dying now, just in time for a mac mini.

I will not be pleased if this is true. I just bought a Mac Mini to use as a media center 2 weeks ago today! And now they have one for $100 less with more power & memory? Not cool apple.

I'm sure this is a long shot, but I've heard stories about people trading in a Mac they just bought for the newly released model. Any truth to that? Or does it just fall under the normal 2 week return policy?

The Mac mini will probably just get a RAM and HD bump, and possibly a bump to the 2.26 GHz Core 2 Duo. A graphics upgrade is *extremely* unlikely, considering the last gen Intel mini used the GMA 950 from 2006-2009.

WHEN is this likely going to happen? I just ordered a Mac Mini online the other day and got my tracking number for it an hour ago. Probably won't have it in-hand till Thursday. If I don't open it, I should be able to return it without restocking fees, right? As long as I return it within 14 days I believe.

Ya never know with Apple

Those are some low-high-end GPUs. I really doubt Apple would give the Mac mini similar specs to the iMac like that.

I'm thinkin' this:

Low end

2 GHz Core 2 Duo, 1066 MHz FSB
2 GB RAM, up to 8 GB.
160 GB HDD
Either a GMA something or 9400M. Could be either, or the 9400M as an option.
$549. Because really, I can get a better Dell or HP for that same price. And a C2Q if I really try.

High end

2.26 GHz C2D or 2.53 GHz C2D as an option.
2 GB RAM, up to 8 GB
320 GB HDD
9400M
$649 or $700. I'd prefer $649.

No way is Apple ever even going to consider the GMA graphics. All graphics going forward will support OpenCL; the GMA's don't.

Plus, has Apple ever sold a computer at $XX49?

Well, it is a low-end computer. At least that's what the price tag says.

No, but the G4 mini started at $499. I don't think $549 is a stretch for the mediocre components I listed. Or better yet, keep the current Mac mini and drop the price $200 or more.

If these are the next specs, I will do three backflips of pure joy and excitement. :)

in regard to the GMA Graphics we all know apple take harsh decisions sometimes, but why would they intentionally take a step back, or maybe more than that, by adopting an old tech like the GMA graphics??

:O i cant see that ever happening, a brand new mini for what £300-400 quid :O pipe dream :p

Did you convert the dollars to pounds sterling?

Right now, the base Mac mini goes for £499. That's about $795. So take $200 from $795, and you've got $595. That's about £373. Not going to happen, I suppose, but Apple doesn't have to do in the UK what it does in the US. But it does seem that Apple just about replaces the $ with a £, and does nothing about the exchange rate, other than knocking 100 units or so off.

They did it with the Mac mini before. Went from ATi Radeon 9200 to Intel GMA 950.

:D

Only thing I see doubtable is GT130 in high-end but G210 isn't much better than 9400M, so I think it's possible. Start training your backflips :p
