I’m choosing between an iPhone Xs and Xs Max. The iPhone Xs Max body is about the same size as a plus. So for plus owners did you find it ok for use one handed? Did you regret getting the bigger size ?

I love the bigger size. I'm going from an 8+ to the Max. But I have to hold it in one hand and operate it with the other. Mind you, I had to do that before I went to a +. You can't really text one handed on any size phone, can you?

For some functions I can use the Plus phones one handed, but most of the time I cannot. There’s no way the Max will be usable one handed the majority of the time, as the screen is taller than the screens on the Plus phones, and almost as wide.

Before getting the X I had all the plus sized phones and missed it. Trying to text one handed on plus sized phones was tough tho.

I can text with one hand on my iPhone X and I have fairly small hands. :) That said, I'm still opting for the XS MAX which I'm sure I won't be able to text with one hand. I consider a bigger screen more worth it

I've been using a Plus phone for three years. Without a Loopy case it's pretty much "impossible" to use one handed and I have large hands. With a Loopy case it's a breeze, but I still use two hands except to launch apps and scroll. Typing for me is always a two handed affair.

Same thing for me. 70% of the time, like reading articles, I use one hand but things like text messages or emails I use both hands. Been doing that since I bought the 6+.

I guess the simple answer is it depends on the size of your hand.
The logical solution is to just wait till they are in the stores and see which you prefer.

When I’ve had the Plus models, I was barely able to use one handed, and I have fairly large hands.

I used Reachability often. Unless you have huge hands, Having no bezel will most likely result in needing the second hand more often, but not on every task.

I moved from a Plus to the X and really enjoyed having the smaller form again. The larger size would sometimes fall out of my pants pocket when I sat down; It was too heavy for a shirt pocket; I couldn't text with it one handed like I can the smaller X; and I don't use it for gaming or any videos longer than a few minutes . I have a good friend whose reading eyesight is poor, and the larger size is very helpful. So......eyesight, movies, games would make the larger size beneficial. But for me, returning to the smaller form makes it easier to text, keep the phone with me instead of carrying it/setting it down/forgetting where I left it .

Best advice I can give is: get the Max and try it. You have two weeks to return/exchange it, no questions asked, if you don't like it. You'll never know if it works for you unless you do.

That's what I did when the 6 Plus came out. Yes, there are some concessions you'll have to make, but not too many (in my case), and the trade off of the much larger screen was absolutely worth it.

I've had Plus phones ever since ... except for the original X, and I am sooooo looking forward to Friday when I get my XS Max.

@OP - You should go to an Apple store or carrier and hold an 8 plus size phone in your hand and put it in your pocket and get a feel for it before you just order the XS max IMO.

Personally, though I love the bigger screen for streaming video / surfing, it just isn’t ideal in my pocket. I couldn’t imagine business meetings and walking around when I’m out and about with this huge lump in my pocket. So I went with a normal size phone for daily driver.

If you’re a woman and use a purse to keep your phone in, it probably wouldn’t be as big of a deal.

I’d still go into a store and get a feel for it before investing if I was you.

Those I know who use a plus size seem to use two hands when using theirs.

I love the plus and it fits well into my hands. I find the size of the screen is better for my eyesight than the regular sized iPhones. I’m going from an 8plus to a Max and I’m really excited about it.

This is what it boils down to and what i'm doing. I think you'll find the weight the more annoying factor tbh. In fact, the weight plus the size can make it cumbersome at times, and makes me debate going to the X or XS. I will find out in a few weeks I guess.

Having received my screen protector for the Max and assuming it’s the correct size I will adapt very quickly to it's size.

At the end of the day, it basically comes down to one thing; Are your hands big? If so, then you’ll have no problems with most things.

Before moving to the X last year I used the + iPhones since they became available.
This year I’m definitely moving to the Max. But I’ve got hands like pit shovels, I can reach all four corners on an iPhone Plus. So I’m pretty confident I’ll be ok with the Max.

I went from a 7+ to a X. It seemed pretty small at first, and I have average size hands. Always missed the girth of the +. The Xs Max is almost exactly the same foot print of the 8+.

A little, but you have reachability which is very "handy". :)
I love the bigger size since I can see more content and never had issues using it one handed and I don't have big hands.

Sure, I text one-handed on my SE extremely easily. That’s what that 4” size was designed for.

I’m similar, the size of the X was one of the reasons I switched to it. For a couple of reasons.

But as nice as the X is and it’s really not a small screen. I miss the little extra width and the benefits that brings, of the Plus phones.

So the Max, which looks ever so slightly wider In the screen department. And certainly taller, will be nice to go back to.

This will be my first plus size phone. I went from the 7 to the X last year, and I had to adjust, because the phone was taller and I assume this will be an adjustment too, but I think it is worth a try. I may end up using it in landscape more for certain things.
