I noticed today that Apple's market cap is now a little short of $155bn, compared to IBM's $153.5bn, Google's $145.1bn, and Cisco's $126.4bn. Obviously Microsoft are still #1 in terms of market cap, but does this make Apple the current #2? I can't really think of any other large tech companies that might be between MSFT and AAPL.

They're ahead of Oracle, Intel, and AT&T right now, too, AFAIK. Will be interesting to see if they close the quarter out to make the top ten of the Financial Times Global 500... there are hardly any tech stocks on there.

Yes Apple is very valuable, not to mention they have a ton (probably literally) of cash in the bank.
