I love my AirPort Express but since upgrading my Internet speed at home, I'd really like to take advantage of the AC speed. The Express hasn't been updated to this standard. It's rather overdue in my opinion and I'm surprised Apple has left the product rather stale given such an easy, and presumably cheap modification.

I'm a fan of the low-profile Express and really not interested in getting the Extreme.

Are there any indications that Apple is looking to refresh/update the AirPort Express this year?

Thanks!

Not sure if it will be or not but check your local Target, I just scored a Airport Extreme for $138 - had one of those red clearance sticker on it - well worth the extra $40 over the AEX.

The T I got it at had 4 on the shelf all marked for clearance.

Took my old AEX and extended my signal and attached it to a speaker for airplay.

Thanks for the info, but even at $138 I'm not sure if it's a good buy. Considering a new one is $199 and it's one of those device that you keep for 3-5 years. I'd say if it's $75-100 new, I'd be more tempted.

Appreciate the replies. As stated previously in my post, I do like the form factor of the Express and prefer it over the Extreme. Guess I'll have to wait until/if Apple updates this product and make a decision from there.

The Express, along with the Extreme, are some of the few routers running the very secure NetBSD OS. Not really wanting to go to an other brand/OS.
