I am able to sync, but I can't get iTunes to backup my iPhone. It pops up with an error stating "iTunes could not back up the iPhone because the iPhone refused the request."

How do I get it to not refuse to back up? Is anyone able to successfully back up?

I keep getting the same thing

You're going to have to wait until the beta of iTunes gets released, probably early next week. I'm actually surprised Apple didn't release a beta of iTunes along side of the beta of the SDK.

yeah same issue. It says that but when i just did a restore on 4.0 it had a backup from when i last synced 4.0 even though i got that error message

Yep, I think we all get the same problem.
Get this, unplugged my fresh install of OS 4 and arranged all 113 of my apps into folders, took about 30 minutes. Plugged in to back up, it took all of them out their folders and scattered them across the pages!
I really hope apple get onto this asap

You need to install the new SDK, this replaces one of the files itunes uses to sync and will fix this issue, though not the folders issue.

Exactly. Installing the new SDK will allow you to backup through iTunes.

I'm guessing if I downloaded the 3G 4.0 os from demonoid and someone added my UDID I can't download that from or even get into the dev center?

If you pirate pre-release software from unofficial sources then these are the risks you take. You are basically out of luck unless your dodgy source also decides to host the beta developer tools and SDK.

PPC with 10.5.8

Anyone know which iTunes file needs to be modified? I sync my phone with non developer computer. The SDK is Snow Leopard only and I can't install that on my PPC. So if I know which file to get I can just install it on one of our developer computers with snow leopard and move the file.
Thanks.

Packages

The SDK has 58 packages and it seems like some can be installed on 10.5. Does anyone know which of those packages update iTunes?

Weird...

Okay, not sure what happened, but here's what I did:
I took my iTunes Library, iPhone Backup, all the preferences for iTunes and the iTunes Application Support folder and moved them to my laptop running Snow Leopard. Replaced all the equivalent files on it and then ran the SDK installer WITH my phone plugged in.
I opened iTunes, right clicked on my phone and choose Backup.
It backed up correctly.
Hooked it backup to my PPC to sync it and it backed up for some reason...

I'm sitting here waiting for my Apps to finish installing, and I noticed that the App panel in iTunes still has the old dock. I would guess that Apple would release a beta of iTunes sometime soon.

Damn it! I am one of those people who wanted the 4.0 since it was kinda of a major update. If I had known Pandora still not playing in the background, I would have probably not do it but still don't have too much regrets :)

It is not too critical that I cannot back up BUT I still would love to download/install it to fix the problem :D

I will subscribe to this thread, hoping someone will help fools like me :D

Can anybody upload the single file that is replaced to allow iTunes backup with 4.0? I don't want to download 3GB for a single file as I am just beta testing, not developing. Or would that be illegal...?
