I have Mac Mini M4 and MacBook Air M4 both updated to Tahoe. In addition my iPhone 14 Pro is at iOS26. However I can't get the new Phone app to complete a call.

Calls out ring one time and then I get an error message saying the following.

Yes, my phone is right next to the computers and the Mirroring app works fine. They're all connected to the same wifi.

Have you been able to make calls from your Mac prior to upgrading? (Making phone calls from a Mac isn't a new feature in Tahoe. It could be done through the FaceTime app before.)

Have you completed all the set up steps in the support article below...particularly 3 & 4 for the iPhone given your error message? This has nothing to do with iPhone mirroring, so that is irrelevant here.

Mine keeps using Zoom Workplace whenever I try to make a call from the mac.

Is there a new way to change the default app for calls in Tahoe? It seems that used to be in Facetime settings but can't find that there now.

I've been making calls on my Mac since Continuity was released (circa 2012?). It was such a relief to sit at your desk and use your Mac to take calls without needing to have your phone close by.

IN the Phone app look in the "Video menu" - select your input/output (and **camera) settings.

**Its a bit ridiculous... Why did they add Camera—just upgrade FaceTime or 'sunset it' into Phone.app This is the kind of bloat that only complicates the UI

Can't do anything in the video menu of the phone app except change microphones. Everything else is grayed out and none of those change the default calling app.

Works fine for me, used it today. MBPM3 and 16PM

It would help to know your mac/peripherals etc... clearly you'll need a mic and speaker connected to your mac. best I can suggest is
  • do as the Apple doc states
  • reboot your mac
  • Might try log out/in of account
I know its frustrating, I spent the day on my four devices trying to sort out all the items that are 'SNAFU'

Anotehr suggestion is if Zoom is 'hijacking', delete it, get Phone working, then reinstall Zoom (thats basically what I did with VPN)

Under "Video" in Phone App on Mac I had to set the speakers and microphone. Those change for me based on whether connected to docking station so "system" didn't work.
