makes some sense since they are releasing 3 new iPhones in the fall but man. Se2 was what I was looking forward to personally most out of everything

Oh c’mon man, you just got a new SE and you’re already thinking about the SE 2?! ;):D:p

While an SE 2 would be nice, I’m kind of content with my current 8+ / SE setup. As long as they come or with a new version in the next 1-2 years though I’ll be happy. It’s a great low-cost, ONE HANDED option to have in the lineup.

An SE 2 with the A11 + TouchID 2 + iPhone 8’s camera sensor would be a dream :)

I’m pumped but zero novelty outside of being on iOS 11

Compared to the Se I’ve had :p

But still grateful for the deal

I would still splurge on an se2 if released and done right

One of the better iPhone releases in relation to price and stuff imo under a Tim Cook administration

It’s awesomeness and exceptional ness accidentally slipped through the cracks

There were no credible SE2 rumors to begin with, so I doubt many people were disappointed.

The original SE was designed for emerging markets, so it made sense SE would have a long tail end. Apple's main focus is reducing cost and a refresh isn't part of the SE strategy. An SE2 would only target the tiny market of small phone users.

The "SE2" renders showed a mini-notch which made no sense. If Apple were to drop the notch as-is onto the SE form factor, it would represent 65% of the display width. Once again, it made no sense.

Just like iPad mini 5 rumors, those reports are romantic, but make no business sense when you really think about it.

^ I’m not in agreeance with JPack’s post saying “I doubt many people were disappointed because of the lack of credible rumors.” I think it’s the complete opposite. Many of the frequent users on this site and other consumers, they don’t know always know what is considered a ‘credible’ Rumor or not. They see rumors for what they’re worth, but there was a flurry of them that was predicting an SE multiple times this year and it did not happen, which did disappointment many members and non-members alike. Even if the rumors seemed far-fetched, The fact that the SE was even being discussed as much as it was brought enough excitement for many to want to see the SE refreshed into something different, mainly because it would have shown Apples interests in a phone that they know was incredibly popular, which even Tim Cook mentioned that they were surprised by the popularity of the SE in the below quote:

https://www.macworld.com/article/3062574/apple-phone/the-iphone-se-a-surprise-hit.amp.html

What’s fact, based on what Apple CEO Tim Cook said on Tuesday, is that Apple blew it when it came to its forecasts for how well the iPhone SE would sell. Right now, “overwhelming demand” for the the iPhone SE means that Apple can’t make them fast enough—that used to happen all the time, but it’s been a while since Apple has been behind on iPhone supply.

And Cook owned up to it. “It is clear that there is demand there, even much beyond what we thought, and so that is really why we have the constraint that we have,” he said. More specifically, Cook suggested that Apple underestimated the number of people who “wanted the latest technologies, but wanted it in a more compact package.”

The SE was a surprise hit in 2016, but can the same be said in 2018? I'm not aware of any other time Apple execs made reference to the continued success of the SE.

At $399, the SE was the least expensive new iPhone in Apple's history. During that period, the iPhone 6s sold for $649. Today, Apple sells iPhone 6s at $449, which probably takes a lot of steam out of the SE.

Most importantly, if the compact package of the SE was greeted with such overwhelming demand, why is Apple waiting more than 2 years to refresh it? Didn't they learn anything from 2016? Either the demand for compact smartphones isn't as great today, or Apple is deliberately leaving a lot of money on the table.

If there is another se, look for it in March 2019.
But it might use the 6/6s/7 chassis instead of the 5s.

Is there reason it wouldn’t a ‘Surprise hit’ be for a 4 inch iPhone for those who actually do want it? I think it’s natural that when an iPhone releases, it does have popularity because it’s considered ‘new’. But over time, popularity Waynes when you have other iPhone models that are offered. The SE is the only standalone iPhone in Apple’s lineup because of the 4 inch form factor, that’s it. That is what the consumers purchasing with this phone and hypothetically you can’t say that if they did not refresh the iPhone SE similarly to what it is now in September, that it wouldn’t be backordered, which I’m inclined to believe that it would be popular.

why is Apple waiting more than 2 years to refresh it?.

You’re asking a question you already know the answer to, especially being Apple Is one of the most unpredictable tech companies in the world. We don’t know their intentions beyond the SE or not. The reality is, we can focus on what we do know about the SE still being retained in their lineup currently and does have a place beyond those who don’t want the latest tech with iPhones like the X. If they do refresh, I would believe it’s in 2019, Which would make the original SE three years old from March 2016.

Didn't they learn anything from 2016? Either the demand for compact smartphones isn't as great today, or Apple is deliberately leaving a lot of money on the table.

Again, we don’t know Apples intentions with the SE or not. I think we might have somewhat of an answer in September if they discontinue the SE alongside with the 6S, (or) they retain the SE and just discontinue the 6S in September.

I think 2019 will be the year for a refresh of the SE, maybe not in the variant that it is in now, but in some upgraded form. But that’s not to say that the SE was not a one time offering either, which it very well could have been as well.

I actually find myself using my MBP and iPad more than ever these days. This year I got a MBP 13' and find reading on it so pleasant, I'm going to it for almost all my reading. My iPad does the rest. This means my 8+ is spending a lot of time unused.

At this point, I could see myself enjoying a SE or SE 2. I would love something that fits in my pocket that stays out of the way, that doesn't require a case, etc... especially now with my current setup.

I used to be an be an 8+ sole user. I read books on it, did everything on it, even journaled / typed on it with a bluetooth keyboard. Now that's all done on my MBP.

I'm interested in an SE 2, but grass is always greener on the other side. Who knows, I may regret it. :p

Yep. I use my iPad Pro a lot, an older iPad for entertainment and in the kitchen for cookbooks, and a mini iPad pretty often for reading other books.. But for a smartphone, the SE is what I enthusiastically chose and it's because of the small form factor and its ecosystem fit with all my other Apple gear, otherwise I'd probably already have reverted to a regualr ol' dumb cellphone... which is what will happen in my house when the SE croaks, if there's no comparable size iPhone around at that point.

Maybe their plans in the future are to force 4 inch lovers to move forward to their bigger more expensive models. At the end it’s all profit that matters.

An SE2 would only target the tiny market of small phone users.
Unfortunately that market is dying fast.

The Noch and bezel less Age has begun:-(

Very bummed if the SE-sized phone is dead, but then again, Apple has yet to introduce a new feature that I want that the SE won’t do. So as long as it’s supported, I will just keep using the SE, buying NOS if needed. I use my Mini 4 for most things anyway. Of course, Apple seems to be abandoning that size iPad, too.

I too am bummed we haven't heard more rumors of an SE 2. I want an SE-size phone because bigger phones just don't fit in many of my pants/jeans/shorts pockets. I actually still have an iPhone 5, which as you may know, won't even run the latest iOS, and more and more apps will not install. As soon as there's a new SE-size phone, I will buy it. But, I would just LOVE it to have an edge-to-edge screen, like the Olixar renderings.

I agree the notch on such a small phone seems hard to believe. SlashGear posted an analysis of how the notch might work with a few renderings. They are pretty pictures, but still hard to believe, especially the really thin notch.

I am not bummed, since I didn't expect a release yet. I assume an SE2 wil be released on schedule in the spring, as all other SE updates have.

If it has an edge-to-edge screen, and updated hardware otherwise, I'll take one of those. Otherwise I'll go for an iPhone 8 or whatever moderne size equivalent is available, since the X and forecasted 9, is too big IMHO.

I'm still hopeful for something next Spring.
I could see them wanting to keep all of that very quiet in an effort to force more people onto new Fall phones.

The whole thing is maddening.
I don't care one single iota about any of their iPhone innovations if it's coming packaged in something the size of the 4.7" iPhones and larger.

Size is what I care about.
