I just got my phone, and I am downloading some new apps, and I noticed that the speed is very slow. There are times where the wifi won't even connect, and i get this retry prompt in the app store. I used my older iphone 7, and there was no issues. Youtube app is also very slow. I am not sure if there is something wrong with the phone or the phone is still configuring itself(sorry, don't know the exact terms for this) itself.

I got a Xs and Xs Max and both seem to be working fine. Did you do an iCloud restore? It could still be downloading stuff in the background, like pictures and text messages. Also, Apple servers are often slow on launch day.

I did a full restore a while back, but Youtube was never this slow, and the content when you scroll could not even load fully. My wifi speeds are around 200 down, 50 up when I did a speed test. I will give it like a day or 2 and see if it improves.

Someone said they had to do a restart of the phone a few times then speed was fine after that , you aren’t downloading photos in the background are you? That would slow it down too

Forget your wifi network, reconnect. That doubled my speed. Must have connected to 2.4 when I first set up iPhone xs max. I did the iCloud restore which worked great.

I am still experiencing the same issue, but it happens randomly. Sometimes it's fast and sometimes the signal seems weak. I pulled out my older iphone 7 to test, and it handles the wifi just fine with no issues. My Xs still has issues where the app store doesn't fully load, youtube content doesn't show/load and safari seems slow. I switched to 4G, and everything loads fast and smooth. I did the "forget wifi", but to no avail. I hope the phone isn't faulty...

I’ve found that unlike my X, the XS is more apt to hold on to the 2.2 ghz than 5 ghz — which will show lower speed tests for me, but not have a huge impact on my real world use. But more significantly, I’m noticing poor cellular reception as compared to my X. Side by side, the X shows one more bar than my max, but more telling is that my Max will now drop into 4G from LTE in areas of my home while the X never did. I’m with T-Mobile and most of my reception is on Band 4, with some 12 depending on where I am.

Mine is performing just as well as my X did on WiFi.
