Is anyone returning the 17" MBP.....?

I love my MBP 17' everything is just perfect.. except for one little thing that keeps bothering me for some reason.. ands that is the lid.. when I close my MBP.. there is a little gap on the left side.. .. ..it doesn't close perfectly.. I know there are other people with this scenario.. and I will like to know if they are returning their MBP por that little defect... I am thinkin about returning it.. but is also to much hassle to sendit by mail.. and so on.. also another thing taht I can probably do. is just get my miney back.. and go buy it at the apple store and check it there before leaving the store........


any coments on this?

I was thinking exactly the same as you when I got my 15" one, but Ive been to look at them at verious places, but they are all the same, and as far as I am aware all MBPs (well most anyway) have this issue.

My MBP closes precisely without uneven gap. For that matter, my 12/15 PBs are also perfect. Maybe I have been lucky with Apple products to this day. I may be pushing my luck too much. I hope my next purchase (MP and 30" ACD) will not disappointment me.

I'd return mine only to replace it with a C2D 17" MBP.

I've had my 17" MBP since late July, and it's the same as yours - very slightly larger gaps at the ends as the latches are in the middle. Definitely not worth replacing it just for that.

My wife's got a MB with the magnetic latch, which is much nicer and easier to use. It would be great if Apple put the same latches on the MBP, although I'm not sure how well the magnets would work with the aluminium casing.

meh I think it's a pretty standard "flaw" on apple laptops, my old powerbook had it, my new MBP has it, I'm not overly concerned, it's pretty minor, doesn't effect the operation at all, I just think it's something to live with, not like I'm going to spend hours with it shut just staring at the little gap.

My new MBP also has this problem, although I almost never see it. I either always have it open and working on it, or it is in its case. I think I was upset about it for a few seconds when I first noticed, then I put it behind me.

So let me get this straight....you're thinking of returning a PERFECTLY GOOD COMPUTER because when it's CLOSED...and NOT IN USE, it has a slight gap on one side? Ya know, I've been a nitpicky Apple fanboy in my day, but this is just insane.

well... i just want to get it out of my head.........! I just want to get convinced just to live it like that and anjoy my precious MBP core2duo.... I actually didi a pixel check.. speaker check.. and everything else that I can think of.. and is just perfect.....!

The gap doesn't bother me, my 15 inch C2D MBP has it as well. It may have gotten slightly better with time, or I may simply have gotten used to it, but either way it's not all that bad. If everything else was perfect I wouldn't return it, you may end up getting a dead pixel or who knows what else.

what an amazing post.

I have had this on my mind ALL day...I noticed the same problem, but have decided not to return it or get it fixed, etc...As it has already been said, I didn't buy the computer to see stare at it closed! The only thing that bothers me is I was worried that my MBP didn't sit evenly on a table. It's fine at my desk at home, but wobbled a little on other flat surfaces...Even at home it moves a very tiny bit...I am/was just concerned that my computer warped or something...but I guess not since it has been described as a "standard" flaw.

My C2D MBP has none of the above. It's perfect. But, it is a 15" model. I thought I interject the positive comment because people who have problems post on the forum.

i use wildeepz on my MBP to even out the way the lid closes; now it feels very solid with no movement at all when closed.

I Think I should stop reading these problem threads. It makes me looking for every defect in the system. I never noticed it before but yes my lid doesn't seal on the left side.

Also After reading about Grainy displays I looked very carefully to the display and yes I saw it was grainy.

But to tell the truth with out me actually looking for the flaws I, I would probably never have noticed the problem.

I agree with your comment. Once you start looking for some faults, you will find some one or another. I came to my definitive conclusion I do not notice the grainy problems with my MBP (therefore, I don't have this problem). Maybe some people are having the legitimate claim against the grainy issues; but, I think some people are start seeing things because of this type of thread.

Knock on wood, I think I got a decent build. Only used it for a few hours, so I may be wrong--and jinxing myself--but everything ranges from excellent (speed) to acceptable (screen)

Its probably the fact that Apple do make great products (mostly) that we expect them to be nothing less than perfect, or close to it at least. If it were another computer company however, we'd probably dismiss slight annoyances and live with it as our expectation of quality are much lower.
