Hi, is anyone using the AMD WX 9100 in a Mac Pro 5.1, I like to get one but I don't know if it will work without modding the PSU or is it enough Power with the 2 x 6 to 8 pin from the Motherboard and 2 x SATA to 6 pin? It so hard finding information about this card, any help would be nice, thanks

AMD WX 9100 is basically a Pro version of VEGA 64 with double the RAM. People here are installing VEGA 64 into MP5,1, one thing to investigate is the GPU fan behaviour, a lot of VEGA 64 GPUs have problems with that.

You should check the VEGA thread: AMD Polaris & Vega GPU macOS Support

Please get one and write a review of your findings. It would be of great interest to many of us.

A few people have tried the WX 9100. It has the high speed fan issue like the Frontier Edition and RX Vega reference cards. You need to supply it extra power like other Vega cards. It's getting to be an old card now and it's inferior to a Radeon VII, except that it has ECC memory and supports professional Windows apps.
[doublepost=1551739634][/doublepost]Sometime this year I expect AMD to release the WX 9200 (pro version of the Radeon VII). There will be an Apple version though for the new MP. It may be that they haven't released that new card yet because Apple has spoken for most of those chips. Of course it's unknown if the Apple variant will be a standard PCIe card.

I will switch to a PC AMD Threadripper 2990wx CPU to combine with the WX 9100, maybe will buy a second WX 9100 when the price drops down, but for now I will try the WX 9100 in the Mac Pro will do the Pixlas mod, just ordert the Cable Open-End to Dual 8 Pin (6+2) PCI-E Sleeved Cable (70cm + 10cm), I just love my Mac Pro and will keep him forever :). thanks for the infos will keep in mind and update asap when I got my card

If you need a professional card right now, but you don't need the 16GB of memory, I think the WX 8200 is a better option. Nearly the same performance and same pro app support for half the price.

I originally though of getting the WX9100 for my cMP, but after concluding that it wouldn't take advantage of the specific drivers for it as it uses the Apple Vega driver, I went with the Frontier Edition to get the 16GB VRAM. Has worked out great so far.

I do power via 3 sata ports to one 8pin and the motherboard dual 6pins combined for the other 8pin port. These are then connected to an EVGA Powerlink for an extra layer of protection. Perhaps another option for you to think about in terms of power.

So changed my mind and after some research I will go for this configuration and cancelled the WX 9100

2 x Samsung SSD 970 PRO 512GB, M.2 (MZ-V7P512BW)
1 x AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2950X, 16x 3.50GHz, boxed ohne Kühler (YD295XA8AFWOF)
1x NVIDIA Titan RTX, 24GB GDDR6, HDMI, 3x DP, USB-C (900-1G150-2500-000)
1 x ASUS ROG Zenith Extreme Alpha (90MB10G0-M0EAY0)
1 x be quiet! Dark Power Pro 11 1200W ATX 2.4 (BN255)
1 x G.Skill Trident Z RGB DIMM Kit 64GB, DDR4-3200, CL14-14-14-34 (F4-3200C14Q-64GTZR)

I will keep my Mac Pro for Background Renderings and Data Storage
