Kind of a serious question. I installed this app at the beginning of the pandemic, and have literally never used it or have been asked to use it. I've used Meet, Slack, Messenger, Whatsapp and a slew of others, but never Duo. Is anyone using Duo?

The lack of replies pretty much answers the question

Duo is pretty good actually, but to answer your question, I haven't been asked to use it, although I have used it a few times with people I know well . In terms of cross-platform apps, it's one of the better ones, but far more people will have Messenger or WhatsApp installed. These days it's lunch is being eaten by Zoom (and partly Teams) as well, and in typical Google fashion, they have signalled that they will over time roll it into their Meets product, which I don't find particularly good compared to Teams/Zoom.

I kind of wish it had taken more hold as a cross-platform Facetime alternative. I don't like proprietary messaging tools, and trust Google more than Facebook.

I literally don't know a single person or entity that uses Google Duo. Since the pandemic started 90% of my business communication was conducted using Microsoft Teams with the remaining 10% split between Zoom, GoTo Meet, Cisco WebEx and, in case of my European clients, obscure solutions nobody has ever heard of, such as MiCollab, BigBlueButton, or Jitsi.

With Google now pushing Meet for online meetings, video conferencing, etc. seems like Duo might be something on the way out over time. I believe Duo was supposed to be more of a FaceTime equivalent for Android (and other platforms as it's cross-platform), perhaps similar to Skype. The thing with Google is that in some spaces, like messaging and video chat, they seem to have a lot of different apps over time that end up competing against each other in a sense.
