I live in a house with several dogs so MagSafe is a necessity on my computers. I see lots of different options, but I was wondering about first-hand experience.

I use a USB C magnetic charging cable from Amazon as shown in the picture. This cable is by Tesha, but there are other manufacturers. I particularly like the L-shape design.

Yeah, I also really liked the L shape.
I use this cable with the Apple brick, and have dislodged the cord on several occasions without damage to my mbp or mba. The usb c attachment that plugs into the Mac makes it pretty simple to re-attach the cable. I’ve been using this cable for the past 4 months or so and have had no problems with charging. I also really like that the cable is braided because I can easily wrap the cord and go and not have to worry about wear and tear.

So I got this one because I wanted an L-shape and it works well but ultimately I'll try something different for these reasons.

1. It doesn't sit flush with the body. I realize they did this to make removal easier but it feels a bit more wobble, potentially damaging to the port, and likely to catch on something. And to be frank, I would rarely if ever remove it.
2. While there is enough room to pull it away from the body if a second cable is plugged in, the problem is that the way it pivots when the cable is yanked, as it would if my dog caught on the cable, means the tip wedges against the second cable and the laptop moves on the table before it disconnects. I can see how a light-weight laptop like my Air would get pulled off a table if it sits close to the edge.
3. While it does have a green light to signify charging, I would love to find one with the two-color charging light I am used to on Apple's pre-USB-C laptops.

To sum up, I love having MagSafe again, but this just wasn't the correct one.

Most, if not all, of the 'MagSafe' style adapters that I've seen don't sit flush with the casing. I pretty much leave the adapter in the port at all times, and after a while, don't even remember that it's there until I snap the cable on. The adapter seats firmly in the port with no wobble. I'm not sure about the cable that you purchased, but the one shown in my original response allows for you to place the cable in an opposing direction to what is shown so that the 2nd usb-c port isn't blocked and it's low-profile head (no overhang) lets me use the second port without having to remove the cable while charging. Also, I haven't found any 3rd party charging cables that mirror the original Apple MagSafe with the bi-tone charging light. Good luck in your search!

Yeah, I admit I used flush incorrectly. Here is mine. You can see the gap (between the computer and the widest part of the adapter) I'm referring to and the issue where the adapter doesn't pull cleanly away because it gets trapped against the other cable. I know the gap is there to allow you to easily remove it with just your fingers, but I'm not planning on removing it so I would prefer a "flush" adapter which doesn't wiggle when you move the cable. How is yours in relation to these issues?

Ah, I can see the difference between the 2 pictures. That isn't good. I know what you mean about using a tool to remove the adapter as the cable/adapter that I'm using came with one. I learned the hard way not to try and use my nails to remove the adapter when I misplaced the tool. ? I was testing out different adapters/cables to decide which performed well, charing time, heat generation, etc., and ripped my nail which are short to begin with.

You may want to think about buying a cord/adapter similar to the original picture in my earlier post. The head has no overhang and is flush with the adapter, and for charging I use the top port and have the cord placed away from the 2nd--see pic.

I actually posted about this in here a few months ago, as I'd upgraded from a MBA with MagSafe to a 2020 MBP with USB-C charging. I eventually decided not to get one, just bought a right angle USB-C charging cable.

I saw quite a few on Amaxzon that look like this. They all looked the same but had different company names selling them. I read a few reviews which showed pictures of damage caused to the port, even getting stuck etc. so I decided against it.

How are you getting on with this one, how long have you had it?

It works perfectly for my needs; it’s flush to the casing and doesn’t wiggle at all. The adapter is small enough that I have plenty of room to use the 2nd port. I’ve had it for about 5-6 months, I think, with no issues. It even came with a tool for removing the adapter which makes it super easy if you take your time.

Thanks for the feedback. Do you tend to leave yours connected all the time, or do you find yourself removing it with/without the tool? Is the tool required?
