Is anyone using the App "OverSight"? The app that lets you know when your Microphone or Camera are on. I am looking for something that will do this but have read some reviews of it causing computer lock ups. Thank you for any Help/Comments or Suggestions.

Don't know if you're using MBP or Desktop ....what I use for my 2017 MBP and iPad (*** have to be careful with newer MBP models ; check the forums/Apple; tighter tolerance and reports of damage) are these covers. Have used for several years with no problems. Don't know about 'sound' but expect Apple to ( eventually)give us the same software 'LED alert" per the iPhone/iPad we currently have.
They're metal, have very strong adhesive and have not come off during the most abusive wiping of my screens/cameras. The 'slides' have never stuck or given me a problem . Have used for years. Unobtrusive; you actually forget that they are there. Now software...whats to prevent the 'software' from being in on the spying?😏

There is no clearance for any cover like this on 2016 and newer Apple laptops. Any pressure on the screen is very likely to crack it. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT211148

Mine is a 2017 MBPro...have been using exactly these on it and my iPad. NO Problems. Been on my MBP at least 3 years. Closed/backpacked and traveled with many times. Like I said...just be careful. "Measure twice...cut once." And since I purchased these years ago...there may be thinner models available now.

You're welcome ! Just be careful and find the thinnest one you can (or: as I used for years; the 'thin strip' stick notes...just have to make sure you don't press the 'sticky ' part into the camera (would have to clean off with water only) and replace once in awhile. Per Chrfr above there have been issues noted on this and other forums so do a little research and look for the absolute thinnest ones you can find. Then just always remember its attached when closing /packing your device. OR: Just always remember that you paid X*1000$ for your device and treat it accordingly!😏
Also note that if you have a cover on your laptop it will offer some added 'stiffness' to the top for closing and any inadvertent pressing.

I used a small piece of scotch “ Magic tape “ over the camera on my iPad, it’s advertised as “ invisible” and is hardly noticeable when applied. The effect it gives is the make the camera image indistinct, like looking through a frosted glass window. Cheap as chips, peels off easily and leaves no residue.

I have been using OverSight along with most of Objective See's other programs after going through a list of other programs that were terrible. They were paid anti-virus programs that were highly rated by other Macbook owners. They also advertised as resource lite programs but they all lied. I also didn't feel like I had full control over what exactly they were doing. Object See programs just hang out in the background until they detect something or I tell them to do something. OverSight tell's me when anything and everything tries to gain access to my Camera and Microphone. REIKEY let's me know if anything tries to tap my keyboard. I think I use every one of their programs for my 2020 13" MBP including the two command line utilities they offer. I have nothing but good things to say about them so try it out and if you have any issues then get rid of it.

I have been using MicroSnitch for almost a decade, across multiple versions of Macs and macOS, without any problems. Bottom line: I would buy it again because it works well and the developer is reputable and well established.

----------
ETA: I don't have anything against Objective-See; in fact, I happily use several of its utilities. I don't use OverSight, though, because I bought MicroSnitch (and Little Snitch) before I became aware of Objective-See.
