Is Apple hard up for money???

He he. Sorry about that title .
I ordered a new iMac 24" 2.8 on Aug. 13 (probably a bad choice of days...). I ordered the $199 (Can) Apple Care Protection plan with it, and I got a ship date for the Mac of Aug. 16 to Aug. 20. Today, checking my VISA account, I see a charge from Apple Canada Online of $226.86. Hmmm I thought, what the heck is that for? A little quick math told me that it is 199 x 1.14 (PST, GST) = $226.86. So Apple has already been paid for a protection plan that isn't in force yet...interesting. I was more surprised than ticked off - is this practice normal for Apple Care, or Apple in general, or is this a boo-boo??
Should I complain?

they will ship whatever is in stock first on an order. when they ship is when they charge your card. the applecare is in stock before your machine is, therefore they charged your card and shipped it. the applecare will still start from the date your machine ships.

I'll second that.

The same happened when I ordered from the refurb store a few months ago. Two separate credit charges for a single purchase. Don't worry about it.

I've still got another week to wait for my new 24" 2.8 iMac to arrive and yet I've already got an email from AppleCare saying that my protection plan expires on 11/08/2010. When I spoke to them they said I could have the date reset when I receive the delivery. All charges appeared on the one invoice but I've not seen it appear on my CC statement yet.

The title of your thread is only matched by your lack of common sense. Yes Applecare charges separately when it ships and will usually ship prior when there is a several day machine build delay. I think there is an option to have all items ship and therefore charge together, or at least there use to be. And yes, Applecare is effective from the computer date, not the Applecare ship date.

The shop isn't smart. It only knows about product numbers.

Read the Term of service and other crap they link to while you are paying for you online order.

Apple will charge your Credit Card once the order ships. Each item is consider an individual item. When each Item ships you will see the charge for that item in your CC. You purchased Applecare which is an individual item, it does not come bundle with the iMac.

How hard is that to comprehend?

When you receive your new Mac, make sure to register your Applecare online against the Mac's serial number. Applecare is not in effect until you register it.
Also, when you register, your three years starts from the Mac delivery date.
