Is Apple laughing at Pro users?

I built a Hac Pro for $800. It is quite quick. Had I really splurged and spent about $1200 it would have been basically top of the line. Good Luck!

Seriously, just look at the new Retina MBP's. Everything soldered in (blade SSD), hardly upgradable. They want you to buy a machine every 1-2 years instead of upgrading and making your INVESTMENT last.

Short answer: yes.
Long answer: I think somebody at Apple screwed up. Somebody, or some team, or some group somewhere inside Apple dropped the ball on making a special deal with a manufacturer or meeting a deadline for a design or something else that was needed for a REAL new Mac Pro, that they probably really did intend on unveiling at today's event.
But since someone or some group screwed up, they couldn't unveil a new Mac Pro today, so they instead pushed the reveal date back a few days/weeks/months/years and fired some people and gave the Mac Pro only a tiny spec bump to let us subtly know that they haven't completely abandoned the Mac Pro line.
...and it's very likely that Tim Cook was snickering wickedly to himself behind the curtain all the while wearing all black including a top-hat and a "villain stereotype" moustache, while at the same time drinking from a glass filled with the tears of Mac Pro users and also sacrificing a newborn baby from Cambodia to an alter for Satan.

Choice makes you think. Thinking is dangerous. Being dangerous makes you take risks. Riskiness make you bungie jump while tethered by a tow chain. Being tethered by a tow chain constricts your blood flow, particularly when you're tethered by the neck. Tethering yourself by a tow chain round your neck can make you a public spectacle. Don't make yourself a public spectacle - Buy a new 2012 Mac Pro or Macbook Pro and avoid public ridicule. And "No," Apple's not now laughing at us, because its already pulled itself up off the floor.
But I see that grin.

Well, let me tell you this. A lot of Mac Pro users have been waiting for a new Machine for years, just ones I know personally. And a lot on this website are already switching over to Windows. They didn't get their new machine after a 2 year wait.
Any good PC vendor can sell you a faster, more modren, more capable, more expandable better in every single way compared to the Mac Pro for about the same. Or less.
And those workstations are available today. Not in a year or two's time. Sorry apple, you messed this one up BIG TIME.

I ponder if it's not more like Intel was unable to supply the necessary chips and thus they were forced to fallback to "Plan B" that seemed like it was hardly a plan B - I really think it was a last minute thing and they put all their eggs in one basket.
What else could they do? A car without an engine does not a vehicle make. Nor does a computer without a processor. So they were forced to go with their plan B and quietly put the change on the website.

Of course Apple is laughing at pro users. MacRumors Forum members are claiming to be ordering retro Mac Pros this very day. Apple execs at some level have to be thinking that the situation is hilarious. Even out-of-date Macs are popular.
By late 2013 will anyone really care anymore? I suspect many will have just moved on.
Yes. People spending $8000 on a fully configured box remember things like this. Like, remember that one time, Apple put 1.5 year old processors in a computer, called it "new", and asked $4K for it, when you could, and many actually did, get the new PC machine that was 30% faster for less.....
That one time is today. Look around, people still remember the PowerPC to Intel transition quite well. They will remember this.
I hate to admit this but I'm 66.
In another year and a half I'll have gone from old to ancient.
I can't believe all the posts like this. It's utterly astounding. What do you expect anyone to say. It's not like the macpro is a heap of poop.
Go on go to pc then next year when you see why Apple waited, you're going to feel pretty damn silly. But truth be told you aren't going to go over to PC, I mean why are you on mac now at all.
It's just like all this mock anger, I suspect it's just a facade. I mean, any serious pro isn't going come on a forum to whinge to other people who don't care, in the hope that they'll get a few 'likes' from other people just like themselves.
Apple changed the world, to everyone's astonishment because around 1999 how many people thought they'd be where they are now. They changed the world by building products that changed the world and changed peoples lives.
But none of that matters now because even in the wake of showing the future of laptops, they're aren't going fast enough.

Trouble is, idiots are much easier to make shiploads of cash out of than pros. I mean pros actually understand what they are being fed, sugar coating or not, while your average fanboy will happily snort up any old bull dust they are fed.
Logic suggests Apple prefers to look after its fanboys, fangirls, and their mas and pas. If they gave a damn about the pros they would keep us informed of plans such as dropping the 17" MacBook Pro, the Xserve, gutting pro software packages, 'cause hey, we like to be able to plan too.
People I know completely changed their ecosystems from Windows to Mac, largely cause I talked em into it, problem is now the MBP 17" is no longer available they will have to introduce Windows or Linux to the system for guys to be able to carry out their work in the field. But, the Apple software they are now locked into won't work on any other 17" laptop.

Do a BTO Retina Macbook with 16GB RAM and increased storage space, attach a RAID and I guarantee you are going to get a lot more than 2 years out of it.
There are probably updated Pro models they are using internally, never to be sold, because Apple sees professionals as direct competitors to their business.
Computers were great for printers and accountants at first, until Office displaced (not replaced) those professions. The same thing is now happening to photography and video editing.
It's not just about focusing on mobile- they are trying to steal your clients away.
I had a similar thought but I think it runs deeper than that. There's seems to be some internal descent within Apple about direction. They agree on the Portables, so that's what we got. If Apple had been planning new MP's with SandyBridge , we should have had them since they've likely had at least engineering samples for along time and it's no mystery what the basic features should be.
It doesn't take Jonny Ives and Co. 12 months to design a product but it may take much , much longer if there is disagreement on what it should or shouldn't be. It would take even longer still if Mr. Jobbs was headed in one direction and now there is a major course correction.
I suspect the Mac Pro line WAS going to be ended an the rumors of it's demise were in part true. I also suspect that the device that was intended to replace was not based on consensus but rather envisioned by Mr. Jobbs. Now that his heavy handed influence is missing, they flounder.
Whether that influence would have led Apple to leave the workstation class machine market altogether, or to develop some radical new machine is only known in Cupertino. The tiny bump we saw only proves that, for the moment, they don't want to leave that place it the line up empty.

well, i moved to windows. and before anyone tell me how stupid or anti-apple or non-apple i am let me tell you something. it is the first time since '96 when i start working dtp(desktop publishing) when i don't have anything to by from apple. to be more clear. apple was always regarded at the most professional, serious company for print, add agencies, film, video and to some degree(but much less) 3d artists. and don't tell me about imac being sooo god. i have one question: what you do when your hard drive dies? on mac pro i put a new one and in 2 min i am back to the job. on imac??? when i started a very good job in bucharest in 2005 i was involved in a huge project with some very big companies(actually two) from spain. let me tell you one think: i was the head of the project AND NO ONE USED WINDOWS. WE ALL WORKED ON MACS. me on my shiny new Power Mac g5, others as well. but not a single person in this project worked on windows machines. not in Romania, not in Spain. so, what is all about you ask? well, this is what make apple what it is(was): a company with a professional profile. i have a shelf full of software(adobe, quark etc) witch only works on mac... so, i need to ask: when enough it's enough? well, for me about 3 month ago, but i would still moved back to apple in a sec if we had new mac pros. now is no way. i will update my windows rig and bye, bye for all apple. my money goes to dell or hp. why you asked? I NEED TO KNOW AS I KNOW IT 16 YEARS THAT EACH NEW YEAR I WILL HAVE HARDWARE TO SUPPORT ME AND MY BUSINESS. I CAN'T GO BUY MAYA FOR OSX AND RUN IT ON 3 YEARS OLD HARDWARE. apple it's going to be heart real bad. they don't realize how much of their name is because of professionals. when vast majority of us will leave, apple will be hit hard. first you loose your name, and then your business. who is going to promote apple anymore? all i can hear is: i spent all that money and now they hit us. and i hear it from directors to television colleagues and print guys. well we see how it is, but who will wait 1 more year so apple give us a new hardware? once Steve Jobs died the bean counters took the place, and we all get f.....d up.
