Ok.... I have been using Ipods with Itunes for around 3 years, have had the Iphone for over 12 months and recently bought the new macbook and timecapsule 1TB

I have around 60GB of music and 200GB of movies on hard disk and want to know how best way to manage the current set up I have and how introducing the Apple TV will effect how things run. I am also concerned that I will fill the ATV memory in a heartbeat and out grow it before i've started...Is this true or is it possible to stream movies from TC to ATV??

Looking forward to you opinions

Jonty.

As long as the music and movies are in your iTunes library you can stream

You can also enable the USB port and attach any USB hd to the Apple TV to synchronize with iTunes

yes you can just stream all your itunes content to the apple TV so you dont even have to use the hd in the ATV itself if you don't want to,,, only bad thing about it is, you ll have to have your computer on with your external(s) hooked up and turned on to be able to stream it's content to the atv...if that's not a big deal for you then that's great

I have a 40 GB Apple TV and about 80 GB worth of music and videos.

Like others have said, streaming is easy: you just have to have all your content managed through iTunes (and you need to have iTunes open and running) and your Apple TV will pick up the content!

The best part about it is that streamed and synched content are treated identically in the menu system, so you'd never even know you were pulling up streamed content when you are browsing around the interface.

Any wifi router with a usb will be able to run an external drive Timecapsule in macspeak and ATV will stream from it. I use the airport express with 1.5 TB drive and it works seamlessly. Your computers mount the drive on the desktop and the ATV sees the itunes content folder. No computer required. No hack either.

You must set your library in itunes to a folder on timecapsule everything should work like a charm. Uncheck Itunes manage my music after so you can have content on your macbook also.

I have my 800GB library on my TimeCapsule. I use it as a wired ethernet external then simply stream everything to the ATV.

I use the measly ATV hard drive as a storage area for stuff i've bought on the ATV but have yet to sync back to my library as thats about as useful as it can be at such a small size. Once I open iTunes that stored stuff syncs back and the ATV HD is ready to take another load of purchased content.
