is apple tv the way to go?

Hello,

My TV a 2009 Panasonic does not have internet connection, however my wish would be to wirelessly stream content from my media collection and new movies as well, Apple TV does all this i know, however I would also like to be able to view the BBC iPlayer and was wondering is there a device that would connect via HDMI and also plug into my panasonic blu ray home cinema system to provide surrond sound where available???

I think that given a bit of time apple will open up the appleTV to the app store, and we'll get iPlayer, 4OD ITVplayer, lovefilm and all the others. The apple TV is certainly capable of it as it runs iOS.
