Do you think Apple is waiting for Intel to release Montevina before releasing the new iMacs? What's the chance of them coming in the Spring?

When do you think the update will happen then?

Maybe in the next 2 months?

I don't think that processor will EVER enter ANY  computer, I think the iMac will get Penryn in Late April/May/June/early july at the latest. Though people say it should be in April. Though, honestly, I can imagine apple have the iMac up there for one year without updating it. It has very good specs, I don't see anything outdated in it.

Montevina isin't a processor - it's a mobile chipset and the successor of Santa Rosa.

The biggest improvement will be the increased bus speed from 800Mhz to 1066. Also, the new chip will enable the use of faster DDR3 ram. I'm personally gonna wait for this chip to be introduced before a drop $1799 on a 24".

I still don't understand why the iMac has to be crippled with a notebook chip when the desktop versions of Penryn are cheaper. Jobs is so obsessed with skinny form factors that he'll chose thin over performance every time.

Get a Mac Pro if you're wanting that much performance.

I would if they weren't priced out of reach. However, that's neither the answer or the solution. Apple needs a proper desktop chip at least in the highest iMac models. Why are we paying for a "desktop" with laptop compenents?

You can get the lowest end Mac Pro for the same price as the high end 24" iMac.
