Applecare is $250 for three years of coverage for the Macbook Air. If the screen breaks or the chassis takes damage, there's a $99 replacement fee, $199 per incident for any other problems/damage.

Is this worth the price? I priced out Macbook Air screens (old style) for about $240 a pop on eBay. I've replaced several PC laptop screens before, so I could probably handle replacing an MBA screen. The keyboard shouldn't be an issue since my model doesn't have the infamous butterfly keyboard.

Now I've had Applecare before on a Macbook Pro before and it saved my bacon through four visits to the Apple Store and a logic board replacement. But the Macbook Air is not a $2500 machine either. I'm wondering whether others would consider this a worthy investment, especially considering that it's about 1/4th of the the price of the laptop.

I should also note that I eventually intend to upgrade the 128GB SSD my MBA came with. I plan to drop an NVME SSD and adapter in the machine. Will doing so make me ineligible or void my warranty?

Installing a nvme drive is a simple procedure and will not void your warranty as long as you are careful when removing and re-installing the screws to install the nvme drive. Install the original drive before requesting warranty service.
