System preferences > displays > color > calibrate

has allowed me to have the night shift effect 24/7, which I prefer. The iPhone only has night shift, so I set it to start 1 minute after it ends, making the color warm for 1439 out of 1440 minutes a day. lol Does 10.12.4 still allow you to have the night shift effect via calibration? Or is it only night shift now? (Haven't upgraded yet.)

ColorSync calibration is meant to serve an entirely different purpose from Nightshift (although it can result in a similar affect if you so choose). So yes, it is still there.

Calibration is still there. In addition you can play the same scheduling game as you do in iOS.

Night shift is independent of color calibration, and is a separate tab in the Displays pref pane on 10.12.4

If you don't care for the normal color response, then you could certainly ignore Night Shift (turn it OFF), and just calibrate for a custom color profile with a nice warm screen, if that's what you prefer. You sound like you have no reason to have it any other way.
Nothing wrong with that, it's a personal preference, after all, as long as you remember that your screen does not show true colors.

Cool. It'll be interesting to compare the 2. I had a theory that night shift = scheduled colorsync calibration. (I'm not married to this theory.)
