Hopefully traveling!
Do we know if the iOS 14 beta allows for device switching of if that will be a future firmware update? As of now doesn't seem to work between my phone and my AppleTV 4K.

I have updated my iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and apple TV. So far I haven’t seen any auto-switching yet on my APP or 2nd Gen AirPods.

No mention of Apple TV as a device to switch to so thats likely to be manual. Apple TV is also missing from Spatial audio support.

  1. Works with AirPods Pro, AirPods (2nd generation), Powerbeats, Powerbeats Pro, and Beats Solo Pro. Requires an iCloud account, and iPhone or iPod with the latest version of iOS; iPad with the latest version of iPadOS; Apple Watch with the latest version of watchOS; or Mac with the latest version of macOS.

Newsflash! It is working between my iPhone and Apple Watch. I was listening to music on my iPhone through my APP. I stopped the song and opened Podcasts from my Apple Watch. I made sure to go to library and start a podcast that was stored on my Apple Watch. It immediately started playing on my APP without showing me the device selection screen. Nice!

Then I put my APP back in their case. I got out my 2nd gen AP and placed them in my ears. I hit play and my podcast immediately started playing on my AP. THEN I stopped the podcast on my Apple Watch and awakened my iPhone. I hit play on my song and it played with no hesitation.

I’m impressed. This alone made the iOS 14 upgrade worth it.

What about surround sound? Any difference noticed yet?

I'm pretty sure the phone and watch did this in iOS13...

I often swap between podcasts playing from my phone to music from my watch while running without picking an audio source.

This has worked since the very first set of AirPods in 2016.

It’s never worked between iPad, Mac, and iPhone, which is supposed to be the case in iOS 14.

The past few years have each had a major iOS feature that got delayed, I think this will be the one.

Ah, well, I suppose the win here is that the Apple Watch/Phone handoff is now much more reliable. In iOS 13 the watch/phone handoff was ok if you used the iPhone as the primary sender. However, if I wanted to listen to a podcast that was stored on my watch, I had to disconnect from my iPhone first. Now that is no longer an issue.

For those of us who would go out for a run without the iphone it was a real pain. But this may be only noticeable for those who would use their watch apart from their iphone.

And it doesn’t seem to be working between my iPad and iPhone. I still have to select the AirPods before it’ll play. Crap.

Works for me with Beta running on iPhone and Mac. Nice. Very seamless.

No it haven’t been released yet, it will need a firmware update in the fall, people think it’s working now with the betas but it doesn’t, also 3D audio isn’t working until the firmware update in the fall
