Is dot mac hosting slow for everyone?

I've been considering moving my hosting to dot mac for a while now since I pay a small fortune for my site at the moment and I've been planning on scaling it back for ages now.

I recently completed a design using iWeb for my girlfriend's mother and my only complaint is that Apple's dot mac servers on which I'm hosting it at the moment appear to be stone age slow! Its a horrible advertisement for Apple and really makes a page look like its loading over a modem connection rather than the 8mb line I'm actually on.

Is it slow for everyone else?

Edit: Even Apple's demonstration dot mac site is painfully slow to load and that's what they're using to sell it!

Seems that way to me. I can't think of a time I went to one and it loaded quickly.

I've not noticed mine to be unreasonably slow, but I'm in the US. Are you in Europe? I've heard it's pretty slow over there.

When I access from the Finder it's slow. When I access my webpage it's quick enough.

Yes, as sananda says, the slowness is a european thing. Please report the problem to Apple support - hopefully they'll fix it.

*grown* That really sucks. I'm going to submit a support ticket about this because it really is rather rubbish. By the looks of that thread sananda linked to, Apple are working on this. I really hope they fix this fast though.

I am a regular poster to the thread in question and have sent dozens of e-mails to Apple .Mac support asking them to resolve the issue. I first made contact with them on the 3 September 2007.
I have asked them to cancel my account and return my money. They will not even reply to my e-mail.
If you are from Europe

DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT JOINING THIS RUBBISH SERVICE.

I understand that it has been a few weeks now that you have reported this issue to us.

I am sorry for all the frustation this issue has caused and I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience.

We are still working toward a resolution for the issue you have reported. As of today, I can not make any comments on what Apple intend to do and unfortunately I cannot give you any time frame for a resolution.

Be assure that I would love to give you good news but as this time, it is not possible.

I appreciate your patience.

Again I apologize for all inconvenience this issue is causing to you."

You'd think they would be working on a "fix" — but so far so bad — of course I am still getting billed full price for renewal next month…

I have complained/notified/queried etc etc but to no avail…

The European (all service provided outside USA?) service is crap and sloooow.

Why don't I just cancel? I ask myself… but I have used the damn @mac.com address for so many things the past 5+ years I can't think about hunting them all down.

Taken and taken

I was so taken by my new iMac after years of using PCs that I blindly assumed .Mac would also be superior...well I was taken in a different way.

I'm in Canada and I can tell you that it is slow - be it for web gallery or iWeb created sites, it is not unuseable but much slower than other options. I just moved from hosting at domain-zone.net, and at first I thought it was slower because the html generated by iWeb was bulky...so I stripped the pages down to plain as they can get with no animation and no large graphics...and it still crawls.

I can put up with it for the rest of the year, but I'll look around in 11 months if it doesn't improve. People won't use it if it sucks, so that will be the end of it.

Its seems really slow to me, and I am about a half hour away from Cupertino here in California.
