Is external USB CD/DVD drive the only option for those running Windows on new MBA?

Hello. I read that it is possible to share a CD/DVD drive between the new MBA and another Mac under Mac OS. What if I need to read from a CD/DVD drive under Windows? Does the sharing function works? Is an external drive the only option? Thanks.

And Windows can use anything shared on the network (disk, folder, drive, etc.)
