M1 Mini with 16gb.
I was just using Scrivener with nothing else open but Messages, with Firefox (not used for an hour or more) in another desktop and it had only one tab open. Wonder if this is a FF bug or is it really that fat.

There's no way that is indicating actual memory. Looks like a large amount of virtual memory being used. In other words, you've got a large swap file going.

Yes, most definitely swap memory. As a retired programmer, I have seen a lot of mem-leaks, but this one beats almost all. Interestingly, the resident programs (Scrivener and Messages) still worked and with no lag, but a new app could not be opened. Killed it and everything worked fine, although I then rebooted just to clean everything up.

Wonder if anyone has seen something like this on other than Firefox. On a new M1, I mean.

Virtual memory is actual application memory. It's just not physical memory. What is your point?
