I've grown up on consoles and have used Mac OS X for the last 8 years since I was 17. I currently have an Xbox One X and Nintendo Switch. I never play my switch and I only play Halo 5 on my Xbox One. I'm a casual gamer to say the least I just feel i'm missing out. The thought of using Windows and a mouse and keyboard really freak me out. I'm wondering if pc's offer a much more superior experience to the Xbox One X for me. Thank you for your replies.

I have a windows desktop pc with the latest graphics card but a 5 year old cpu and motherboard. Runs all the games I play at 4k 60fps easily. Very good system that I use for work also.

Its got the biggest library of games and loads for casual play. Check out steam. They have a ton of great casual games to play

What games do you play or would you like to play?

From my experience: FPS or shooters are superior on PC and you don't need the most expensive hardware to play these. Although they look great in 4k I must say myself. I must say, I started gaming in the mid/late nighties with mouse & keyboard and never appreciated playing fps games on consoles. I suggest to get a decent mouse and keyboard combo. These can get expensive, but my best mouse only was around 40 euro.

And don't be afraid of Windows. It installs fast and works fine. Just, don't jump on the latest updates (October 2018 fiasco) and keep (GPU) drivers up to date.

I still have a PS4 for its exclusives and car games.

The thought of using a console does the same for me :) I tried it once or twice but the whole controller over mouse and keyboard was not for me. But we are each used to doing things a certain way.

If something like Halo5 is what you play then I doubt you will know if it is a superior playing experience until you get comfortable with the change in style and can decide at that point if it really is superior.

My son, for example, plays PUBG, he and his friends go on PC to play it. They all say the better graphics, improved aiming with a mouse and more controlled movements make the PC the better option. Put all that with a fast SSD/NVMe then it improves the position more.

I'm a casual gamer myself, and the consoles have a great inventory and selection of games, but I think PC gaming still has an edge in some areas.

The thought of using Windows and a mouse and keyboard really freak me out.
Aside from using windows, if you're a long time mac user, let me address the keyboard/mouse while playing games. You're 100% right, its an adjustment to be sure. You're muscle memory is based on using a hand held controller (And you still can get one for the PC) and it took me a while to get used to using the keyboard with the left hand, and the mouse on the right on some some games. At first it was tough sledding, but it didn't take too long to get used to playing that way. Now it feels completely natural.

In some respects, I do think it does, some games tend to offer better graphics, better options, and mods that may not be available on the consoles. The selection of games for instance is huge, you can find legacy and new games alike.
