Now that Fox has joined NBC, CBS and ABC in telling Google ... no!

Are we going to see Google give up on the project they were hoping was going to piggyback the Big 4 networks and replace their advertising with Google's own Google Ads.

Personally I think it looks good on Google for thinking they could convince the Networks that they should turn their backs on their loyal Advertisers.

Seems Google was looking to bring their AdSpam to people's TV screens.

I would like to see some competition to Google not based on their AdSpam business model.

Meanwhile you can still get it free on Apple T... nevermind

Anyways, all this stuff is dumb IMO, be it ATV or GTV.

you can still find the shows online if you know where to look. hell, you can even use google to help you find them. btw, google is working with at least hulu i believe. i forget the specifics but nothing is going to stop googletv from happening save consumers.

The only hope for Google TV is the TV manufacturers. No one wants another set-top box. If they could somehow get Scientific Atlanta or Motorola to adopt Google TV in their cable boxes, there may be something there.

The problem with Google TV, and Android for that matter, is Google is relying on third-parties to make products out of their software. In some cases, they do a good job (Motorola Droid, HTC, etc) and others cases they don't (T-Mobile G1, Logitech Revue, Samsung Galaxy Tab, etc).

Personally, I think Apple and Microsoft have a better chance at penetrating this market. Google is not a media devices company. They have some content with YouTube, but even there they rely on third-parties to provide that content.

Microsoft has the XBOX 360, Zune, Windows Phone, Windows Media Center (now built-in to Windows Embedded) and Media Room (WMC for AT&T U-verse).

Apple has the iTunes Store, Apple TV, iPad, iPhone and iMac (which let's face it is transitioning into just an LCD screen with a built-in computer).

I don't think Google's strategy is quite as thought out.

When you're Eric T. Mole and you're hell-bent on following Apple, it helps to wipe off your glasses and look around from time to time and realize you *are not* Apple and can't pull off successfully everything they do (not that AppleTV is a roaring success . . . yet.)

It's beyond me why google even want to do googletv. Just like it was beyond me why google wanted to make a phone . And a self driving car. I miss the days when google was just a simple search engine.

No, I imagine that there is going to come a time in the very near future where GoogleTV is built into every single box provided by a cable company and will ultimately be used by the cable providers to breath new life into their old business model.

Easy. Search.

The TV is one of the most widely penetrating electronic device in human history. It is one thing to control the online side of things from a computer point of view, but Google are going after the big knock out. TV. Most households may just have one computer (barring laptops) but may have as many as three TV's.

Television will eventually merge onto the Internet, it is happening already, with Netflix, Hulu etc just the tip of the pie. Eventually, the Broadcasters will have to cave in to the ever increasing weight of online deliverable content. If Google gets in early enough, and can perfect the hardware/software before everyone else catches on, they would have the same lead that Apple is enjoying in the nascent tablet sector. At first it will only probably be the ones first fast enough connection, unlimited caps etc, but with the ever increasing broadband plans, it will see a steady increase. Not enough to replace digital storage such as Bluray etc, but it will one day get there. This is a long range goal by Google. It may take years before it actually becomes profitable.

If Google becomes the defacto standard of online TV, then they will have just about added another god-knows-how-many-million people to their big money generator.

Search.
