...or does Apple also need to put out an update for the iWork suite?

The last update to Pages (I didn't check the others) was July 20, 2011, the same day Lion was officially released to the public. At this point I think it's safe to assume there will be an update the day Mountain Lion is released, and not before. I hoped for an iWork developer preview, but apparently not.

iCloud support is still app dependent, same as Lion. While there are some new APIs to make it easier, it's not really new. iWorks still requires an update to support iCloud.

This is what I really am looking forward to, I want to edit something on my MBP, then open it on my ipad and seamlessly keep working on it. Right now I have to use QuickOffice and MS Office and Dropbox, I'd really like to use iWork again and have iCloud manage syncing everything.

I completely agree. I do find the lack of support of iWork '11 disappointing though; will we see a new version of iWork alongside the release of ML?

Lion has not yet been officially been released to the public. The only way to get it if your not a paid developer is to pirate/steal it.

I am really looking forward to this feature. I may have read it wrong, but I was under the assumption that lion was able to do this and turned out it did not.

I've resigned myself to re-framing how I think about iCloud. Despite Apple's past failures with MobileMe, many of which affected me as a user, I think this time around at some point Apple will get cloud services right.

In the meantime instead of getting sucked into their marketing, I'm using other cloud services and enjoying a trouble free experience. It's very refreshing to use a service that works as it should. Even better is the flexibility offered by being able to use different document types.

I'm taking a wait and see approach with iCloud. The obvious benefit is having complete immunity to iCloud problems. I can sit back and watch as Apple slowly creeps ahead and gets the bugs worked out.

Once iCloud is getting good reviews on a regular basis, once the problems or limitations are resolved, then I'm going to give Apple another chance.

So what apps and what cloud services do you use?

It is working for those apps that are a part of the operating system, such as text edit. There you have it integrated already to use iCloud.

I'm hoping this means that they'll put fixes in place for iWork, etc... at public release of ML. Fingers crossed.

That's my hope, too. But the iOS Apps need an update as well, because they do not support all the fonts like the OS X Apps do. iCloud sync would be a nice feature, but only with full compatibility between iOS and OS X.

Not every Mac supports every font, either. People can add custom fonts to Macs, for instance. That's a problem that won't be solved until Apple allows manual font installation on iOS, if they ever do.

Who uses iWork when there is Office?

9 times out of 10, I'll choose to use iWork instead of Office. For a large portion of users, Office's "vast set of features" is nothing but bloat. I have yet to use iWork and feel limited or like there was a feature I needed but didn't have.
