So, I brought up Finder today, and in the sidebar I no longer saw iCloud Drive there. So I brought up settings, iCloudDrive was not checked, so I checked it to show it in the sidebar again. What appeared there is now called Mobile Documents. It seems the same. When did that happen, and are they in fact the same?

I tried going to my Library folder, and I dragged iCloudDrive to the sidebar - it turned into Mobile Documents as well. What's going on?

This is very confusing!

In the file system there is ~/Library/Mobile Documents. Finder shows that as ~/Library/iCloud Drive. So yes, they are the same. Finder hides/modifies some folders. Supposed to simplify, but can also lead to confusion.

Something has got in mess with your Finder settings. The sidebar should show it as iCloud Drive.

Probably not a good idea to drag ~/Library/iCloud Drive to the sidebar. Remove it, and put it there with Finder's settings. You might need a reboot.

Thank you @gilby101 ! You nailed it. Seeing your reply, I removed Mobile Documents from the sidebar, relaunched Finder (I tried this to avoid a restart if I didn't need it), then I added iCloud Drive back again from settings - it's iCloud Drive again!

Thank you again!
