I just updated to 10.7.2 and noticed the iCloud service. It didn't ask me for payment information but I've bought stuff from iTunes/Appstore before so the credentials are on record but usually it asks a million questions +1 to confirm your purchase which it didn't in this case. Didn't Apple say iCloud would be on a trial basis for the initial year?

I'm just using it to sync my contacts/mail/calendar for the time being. The multimedia functions will rarely, if ever, be used.

Thanks

Of free storage, after that you can add extra as required. The @me email account is free.

Thanks Macman45! Is it tied to your Appstore login credentials or can you create a different account and gain another 5GB on another account? I'm assuming it's free as long as you keep the account active?

The first 5GB is free with your iCloud account and you're able to purchase more storage if you need it:

15GB: $20/yr
25GB: $40/yr
55GB: $100/yr

To save backup space, go to Settings -> iCloud -> Storage & Backup -> Manage Storage -> (Name of your Device) -> Backup Options -> and probably deselect Camera Roll and other apps that you don't need the settings backed up.
