iCloud Is iCloud Messages Syncing Safe?

When the Messages in iCloud feature first became available, I recall there being some difficulties, particularly with the initial syncing... I think it had something to do with each of the devices perhaps having different messages (IOW, due to inconsistent manual deleting, some messages may exist only on the iPhone, others only on the Mac, others only on the iPad, etc.) which all needed to be merged together to sync to iCloud.

Has this been resolved? My fear is that I'll enable this feature, and it's going to mess something up.

I’ve been using it for quite some time and it works well. I’ve recently ran into a search issue that only started after I’ve upgraded to Ventura.

It’s not particularly reliable for me with standard SMS. Some messages sync, others don’t.

iOS 16 (iPhone and iPad) and MacBook with Ventura.
