Hi Everyone -

So I just downloaded Meta Z to add Metadata to by Blu-Ray files and something very weird started to happen on my iMac.

1) It says the App wasn't recognized and not from an Identified Developer...I continued to download.

2) My computer started acting slow once I opened the app, the rainbow wheel was spinning, Apps were bouncing...so I deleted it.

3) I also went into the Library and deleted anything associated with it.

I'm concerned my iMac was exposed to Malware or some type of virus? Is anyone else familiar with Meta Z? Is it legit?

After deleting it my computer seems to be acting normal again. Now I'm wondering if I should do a complete Factory reset or if I'm fine.

Any help would be appreciated - thanks!

I have never used MetaZ, most probably someone has taken the open source MetaX code and improved it.
I don't think you have to do a complete factory reset.
I would suggest doing the following:
1. Download and use EasyFind to identify as well as delete any possible leftovers of MetaZ.
2. Download and use Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for Mac. It will take care of malware, if any.
Good luck! Everything is/will be fine! :)

Definitely use Malwarebytes as mentioned above. That should root out any possible infections.

I hate to sound like I'm beating a drum, but why would you download an application that you were not familiar with, and continue to install it, even after you got the warning that its not from an identified developer.

You need to practice safe computing habits and that means not blindly downloading apps that you're not familiar with. I don't want to sound harsh as that's not my intent, but I did want to convey that if avoid certain habits you'll be much better off.

Good luck in sorting everything out.

Thanks guys!

I read reviews that it was a great App so I guess I just had a bad experience with it!
