I have this problem at times too. And it’s very annoying to see double entries. But lately I haven’t seen this issue. So hopefully it’s fixed for good.
It sucks because sometimes people use or activate their phone number and multiple emails for iMessage and FaceTime. It needs to be unified as long as all those send and receive ids are coming from the same contact. It sure as hell will take the guess work of choosing which id to use when sending that person an iMessage or FaceTime call.
