Is Intel reliable?

I, like a lot of people on this board, am waiting for the Santa Rosa chips to be released so new Macbook Pros can come out and I can purchase my first Mac. I was reading on Intels website that Santa Rosa should be coming in quarter two and company's are already working on their motherboard designs. So that means not only will the chips be released during the second quarter but laptops featuring the chips will also be released. So are their any hopes for the Macbook Pro to be one of the first lap tops to feature the chips? Is Apple really that quick? Does Intel usually release on time? Anyone have some inside info? that'd be awesome. I really am so tired of waiting. . .

It's hard to say since there is very limited history to go on.

If you recall the transition from CD to C2D was REALLY ****ING LONG. Most other major manufacturers already had labtops with C2D in them but Apple lagged behind.

There is some debate within these forums if history will repeat itself.

I think this time around things will be faster and better and the wait worth it.

Looking at the new Mac Pros with the unreleased processor tends to make me think this way.

Intel is pretty fast in it's releases, and since they are giving apple exclusivity(quad-core in the MP) I'd say: yes, the MBP will soon get Santa Rosa, and it will he one of the first laptops with it.

It all depends on Intel's supply. It simply took Apple a while last year to get the quantity of C2D CPUs necessary from Intel to launch the new MBP, and then the MB. That's why Apple updated the iMac to the C2D first in early September, because they don't sell as many iMacs as they do notebooks.

It wouldn't do Apple much good to announce a new system revision if they know they can't get nearly enough of the chips from Intel to meet the demand. That's not to even mention the time it takes to ramp up the factory in China to manufacture the units once they do get the goods from Intel.

also, consider this: apple is the only customer of the 3Ghz intel processors in the 8core mac pro.

Being the design and marketing gods that they are, I fully expect Apple will find a way to have (at least) some brand new hardware releases at about the same time of the release of Leopard.

Apple always gets the first batch of new chips, like how the Macbook Pro was one of the first with the Core Duo processor.

As a result, they were near the back of the line for the Core 2.

Apple has the latest Xenon for the 8-core Mac Pro

As a result, they'll be near the back of the line for mainstream production of some other technology

iMac gets it first then the notebooks. I also bet we will see changes in the iMac and MBP with this release.......cant wait.
