I recently "lost" my iPad Pro M2. It was running iPadOS 18.1 with no issues, and the latest iCloud backup I have is indeed one made on iPadOS 18.1.

Tomorrow I will get my replacement, an iPad Pro M4, 12.9", 1TB, WiFi/Cell, which will probably come with iPadOS 18 installed.

Can I restore my iCloud backup (iPadOS 18.1) onto the new iPad Pro M4 (iPadOS 18), or will I need to update to iPadOS 18.1 and then restore from the iCloud backup? I see Apple pulled iPadOS 18.1 for iPad Pro M4.

As a follow-up...

I got my M4 iPad Pro today, and iPadOS 18.1 B5 showed up in Software Update. I updated it, and ALL is fine. I restored my iCloud backup of my M2 iPad Pro (iPadOS 18.1 B2).

Running iPad OS 18 right now. Turned Public Beta on. iPad OS 18.1 beta 2 (not 5) shows up in my Software Update. Does that have to be installed before beta 5 appears?

No it does not, but that may be the difference between Public and Developer Beta…
