I don't know if that's true or not, but you'd think that big companies like Samsung, Huawei, etc. have plenty of money to spend. I can't imagine that they aren't able to make their flagships chinless. I'm pretty sure something else is going on here and it's not related to money.. if it is, then shame on them.

Either way, this is something that I've always wondered as well.

I recall reading somewhere that it was a patented process. But then again, that never stops other companies from copying so who knows.

I was thinking the same thing that maybe there’s a patent or something that is preventing other companies from doing this.

I heard apple patented it. Not sure if that’s actually true though as never seen a source.

There are completely screen phones out there except for the bottom chin. Androids. If only they could fold it or figure out some other way it would be amazing.

Apple REALLY figured it out with the folding OLED if you ask me.

As much as we knock Apple, no chin is HUGE especially if they can keep it exclusive to iPhone.

No let’s talk about that notch...lol

I'll give you one notch for a chin and a brow. Fair trade.

For all the abuse the notch gets the chin on these androids that makes the phone non-symmetrical looks way worse.

The “chin” on phones like the OnePlus 6T or the Galaxy S10 is a misnomer. If you consider it a chin, you have a very short memory.

At most it’s only 1 or 2mm thicker than the bezel on the iPhone X series phones. It’s certainly a lot less intrusive or unwieldy as the huge notch on the iPhone.

From a symmetry and design standpoint, no notch with a slightly larger bottom bezel will always look better than a small bottom bezel and a large portion of the screen cutout up top.

Agreed. The notch is pointless if the phone is still going to have a chin. I say keep the small bezel, until you can get rid of the chin.

Hmmmm.... I barely notice the difference in size between the chin on my P30 Pro and on iPhone XS Max.

What also helps the Android phones looks wise is the Curved Displays, as you see a lot less Display border vs the iPhone, although I do somewhat prefer the more symmetrical look of the iPhone XS Max as well as its flatter display functionally, however design wise the Androids do look better.

I’d rather a larger bottom bezel than top bezel. A larger bezel at top just makes a phone look top heavy.
I personally like the small bottom and top bezel on android phones like the s8/s9 or the holepunch displays of the s10.
