iPhone XR Is iPhone xr display actually better?

Hi all,

I have a question: do you think that iPhone Xr display is actually better than OLED displays?

I have an iPad 2018 and Galaxy S9 +, and i must say, i cannot long use my phone, the eyes are getting tired really fast, at the same time i have no problems with an ipad.

I am thinking of buying an iPhone now, after a + size phone i want something smaller, but i am not sure, if the problem with eyes comms from my phone display being too small, the Samsung display being too contrast and bright or it is so, that i should buy a bit bigger phone, but ips displays could actually be better for eyes and i will be better off with iphone xr...

Pretty much everyone will have a different take on it, which won't necessarily tell you much as to what it will be like for you. The only way to really know is to try it yourself (perhaps by using the phones at a store or elsewhere if possible).

There are also a variety of similar threads that take this one, and effectively coming down to those same conclusions, for example: Does anyone prefer a great LCD screen over OLED?

In a store iPhone Xs looks obviously better, I am more worried about long use, like doing flash cards, reading something...
 
As already stated above the opinions will vary because screen quality is a personal preference, might also be influenced by what you’re used to.
You’re basically asking people which monitors are the best but our eyes respond differently to different things.

Buy from a place with a good return policy and try the product for yourself.

iPhones usually have the best screens of their kind because of Apple's conservative approach to new tech on their phones. The XR screen is better than most competitors, but I think the X/XS OLED is just on another level.
 
in terms of specs and numbers, no the Xr screen is not as good as the OLED screens. But in terms of visual usage, it can vary for each person. I suggest you test both screens like how you currently use your phone and see what works for you.

In my opinion, you should visit your local Apple store (if you have one) so that you can view and handle the different phones in person. That way, you can make an informed decision.

Make use of the 14 day return policy.

PWM is a real issue for some people, but not most. Contrast, which OP mentioned, is not an issue for anyone, although excessive brightness may be. OLED generally helps with that issue, though, since the entire screen doesn't need to throw blue light at the user for text (etc.) to be usably bright. For ordinary vision loss, which is what this sounds like, OLED is every bit as good and better in some ways. For PWM, OLED probably is a non-starter. Bottom line is that OP should try the phone he wants (the Xs, I'm guessing) and see if he experiences headaches or other PWM symptoms. If not, he has a good display technology for him.

There is for some. It used to bother my eyes a lot. Headaches, eye strain, but after a couple of weeks I got used to it.
Some people will adjust, others won't, unfortunately.
 
I had no idea about PWM before and now it is the biggest deal breaker for me regarding phone specs. I really wonder how much of the population is effected by PWM.

I have bought an XS Max and due to severe dizziness and eye strain problems I gave it to my wife after three days of usage. She uses it seamlessly.

I wish I could have used the phone. It is on another level, no competition for the time being.
 
I’ll just be honest.. everyone will have differing opinions. On top of that the term better is almost ALWAYS subjective.

There are strong points for an OLED and strong points for a LCD. I mean obviously LCD has longevity on its side. OLED has VERY deep blacks and very BRIGHT whites. Which is a lot of what causes PWM.

When talking about the Xʀ people will always bring up resolution and pixel density as to why it makes the display “worse” than the XS Max or XS. Some will go as far to try and make you believe the Xʀ and iPhone 4 has the same display ... lol yeah I’ve heard that one too. Which is the FURTHEST THING from the TRUTH.

The iPhone Xʀ has been voted to have the best LCD on a smartphone. This is even with a “sub 1080p” display.

Truth is this is all subjective. I h r a Max, X and Xʀ and I choose my Xʀ as my “daily driver”.

I don’t necessarily think that it’s good for your health that you adjusted.
