i had bootcamp with xp formatted to fat32 and an external drive also formatted to fat32, i use to play games off the external drive. Now i updated to vista which had to be ntsc (or whatever the n one is) now when i tried to install a game on my external drive through firewire 800 it took way to long, and the game doesnt seem to load as fast and lags whenever i open a new section of the game. Is this because there different file systems? or could it be vistas fault? let me know

It's pretty established that Vista requires more resources to achieve an equal performance to XP on a given configuration. Sort of like Leopard and Tiger! The best advice (as always) is to keep from fixing things that already work. If you don't nee the fatter operating system, stick with the slimmer one.
