I'm wondering is if its doing any damage to my iMac if I download a fan control app and give permission to it. Thanks,

Depends what speeds you apply under what loads, short answer is yes it could be damaging if you're not careful.

I bought a cheap iMac 27 with a bad sensor and I have to use Macs Fan Control or it sounds like an airplane. The alternative would be to replace the sensor. You just have to use a fan control program sensibly. As in don't turn it off if there may be a thermal problem.

Depends on what you do with it.

I use TG Pro on my M1-Pro during some 3D renders to run the fans at full speed because it keeps the CPU cool enough to avoid throttling.
