Is it better to buy a 15.6" Portable 4K Monitor than a 1080P one

Having a 14 day quarantine session in a Hotel to look forward to, I was thinking of buying a Portable 15.6" Monitor to use with my Intel Mac Mini (2018).

Whilst the 4K monitors in this size are more expensive, I assume that using the 4K monitor at 1080P would give better clarity than using a 1080P monitor at its native resolution? I mainly work with MS Office apps and SQL based applications using VMWare Fusion.

If money is no object, then get the 4K for the heck of it, but 1080P is MORE than sufficient for your stated use case.

Well, that's new information. I don't have elderly eyes yet, so I can't really say for sure. So maybe stick with 4K just to be safe. That looks like a nice one, but a bit pricey. Good ratings, but not that many ratings. Here's one with a lot more ratings and a good bit cheaper:

While it may be apples and oranges, running my 4K 27” display at 1080p resolution is noticeably blurrier than a 27” 1080p display running at 1080p.

At 15.6”, you’ll be ok with 1080p most likely. The added 4K will just increase power consumption

Or if the retailer has a good return policy, buy both to test

Thanks @usagora - I did see that one but I was a bit swayed by the fact that the C-Force had an average brightness of 400 nits - although I have just checked the C-Force website and it is listed as 300 nits there!

I'd take the 4K. As you'll be able to run it in HiDPI mode. So, it'll be like a 1080 display but sharper. Most noticeable with text due to the way the system renders fonts post Mojave.
