I consider myself an average knowledged computer user. Unforunately FTP is foreign to me. How difficult would it be to create my website in iWeb and FTP to 1and1.com? I have never used FTP before but would like to learn.

I have heard that iWeb does not include an FTP service and would need to find one. What is the easiest to use FTP that can get my webpage in iWeb to 1and1.com?

Get TRANSMIT, its fairly cheap and makes FTPing very easy. I have 1and as well.

I use a free program called Cyberduck, which does the job perfectly with little hassle, as an added bonus you get a rubber ducky in the dock which is great to look at!! :)

You don't use FTP to move data from .mac to 1and1.com. You use FTP to move data to and from your computer. So what you do is tell iWeb to publish to a folder on your Mac then you move this folder to your hosting site using FTP. So it does not matter if .mac sorrts FTP or not. It's simple in concept: All you need to do is move a folder from your computer to the web server.

All Macs come with an FTP program called "ftp" that will work fine for what you need to do. But "ftp" runs in a terminal and required that you use the keyboard. People you can't use the keyboard can hunt down any number of graphical point and click FTP programs. They are pretty easy to find.

I'm a second for Cyberduck, and I used to have a website with 1and1.co.uk until recently, but had no problems uploading from iWeb using Cyberduck.

I use Transmit (FTP) and I have 1 & 1 as of now. Using iWeb it has been easy since I publish to a folder and just upload to my server. I'm "far" from being website savy as my art is my focus but it is pretty straight forward. I think Transmit has a step by step file that will show you just what to do…
