On my 2018 iPad it works great I love stage manager. it’s ok hard at first to learn the gestures to make it work. Next iOS I bet it will have a slide icon … my hp 2022 monitor display mirrors the iPad and I still see stage manager on my 12x bionic …. Even the forums say it can’t do this … maybe the mirroring is what’s doing … it’s not a second display as the m1 could do but I am loving it… maybe I am not into a second display yet cause my iMac is setup to be it so… as an artistvI have a long hdmi cord and sit in my lazy boy and see the drawings on the big screen. I even have a dual splitter that I can connect to my TV and so I can have it displayed on my TV and my monitor at the same time. My iPad 2018 is kicking ass.

love how I can resize so fast any application

love how you can group apps by sliding them in stage manager

tap anywhere on desktop - stage manager goes away - software fix later but eh probably Bugging you code people - I am learning to code and can see softwate takes slot of work to make it well work so what they created is magic !! Will be tweaked to be an even better.

just love it so much … its made me use my ipad so much more !!!

anyone else feel this way ?

all the best !

For me it falls apart when your have more than 5 workspaces opens at any one time. If you have 6+ you still have to use the swipe-up gesture to see them all making the side-stage rather redundant. You can’t access the side-stage from the Home Screen either as the same gesture summons the (useless) widget dashboard. And if you have 4 apps open at once you cannot Expose them either.

Agreed, stage manager works well.

Only issue — at the moment — is inability to go full screen on either iPad screen or external monitor display when running app games. This appears to be same for most app games, including Scrabble Go (attached screengrabs), Asphalt 9, Pac-Man, Tetris.

Question: What‘s the toggle for app games to show true full screen on both iPad screen and external monitor screen?

For example, when running an app game in Stage Manager mode and pulling the window in bottom right to enlarge to full screen, goes only as far as showing the black bars on both sides, like seen in these screengrabs from the iPad screen and external monitor display.

Here
Aside from some very specific scenarios, I don’t see where it offers much value over split screen and slide over on the iPad display. Now I bet use with an external display will be game changing for iPad power users.

Stage Manager is my default experience on both my Mac and 2018 iPad Pro. I quite like it, though I can see why Apple hadn’t originally planned on enabling it for this particular iPad Pro. The performance begins to crawl under certain scenarios, particularly when using Playgrounds along with stages containing multiple apps.

The feature is compelling enough, though, that it tempts me to consider a new iPad Pro (part of the reason they may have chosen to enable it 😉). However, I’ll wait for either an M3 edition (which should be more than double the performance of my current model) and/or when a larger (eg 15”+) model is introduced.

I got used to it. Slide Over was a mess and you can get the enhanced Split View experience at its very core. Just hope they fix active window detection. Try to put two identical windows next to each other. One will appear of lower brigtness (no matter if you tap or type inside od it). At least on XDR iPad.

I try it every once I a while, but it’s so laggy and buggy. I could see myself using it far more often once they get it under control.

It’s so buggy and terrible. I turned it off (used during beta and the first release to see if it was improved - it wasn’t) and forgot about it. The fact that I cannot place windows where I want makes it pointless and half the apps with text entry don’t work.

Absolutely agree — Stage Manager is a great feature that makes the iPad more useful for productivity. I have been using it on my M1 12.9 and haven’t had any issues — zero bugs — It is my favorite feature of iPadOS. As you said, it will only get better as it is further refined.

I turned it off as well - for now at least

But definitely interested seeing what improvements are implemented in the future

I turn Stage Manager on and off as needed. For me, it's useful for being to use portrait-only apps in any orientation including upside-down when that's more convenient for charging.

I initially thought it was cool when I could have 4 apps open side-by-side on my 2018 iPad Pro, and then I turned my iPad to portrait mode and all the windowing got screwed up, and it was a pain to re-orientate everything all over again. I think it can be useful, I want to get round to playing with it a little more now that school is over and the holidays are here, but my initial impressions have not been very positive thus far.
